Movies to Help Sammi from 'Jersey Shore' Get Over Ronnie
Inspiring Movies About Bad Relationships and Womanly Strength
Despite all of Ronnie's apparent misbehavior, Sammi has stood by Ronnie's side, even turning her back on Snooki, J-WOWW and the other girls in the house when they tried to alert her of Ronnie's actions behind her back and reveal his true nature. She simply would not believe it.
Let's take a look at some inspiring movies about emotional abuse, bad relationships and girl power that might help Sammi and other women like her get perspective on their hurtful relationships.
Movies about Emotional Abuse and Dangerous Relationships
"Sleeping With the Enemy"
"Sleeping With the Enemy" is a 1991 movie starring Julia Roberts and Patrick Bergin. Bergin plays Martin, Laura's abusive and obsessive husband. Laura fakes her death to escape, but Martin finds her and becomes obsessed with killing her.
"Svengali"
A 1983 movie starring Jodie Foster that was made for cable TV, "Svengali" features Zoe, a rock star whose career is pushed to success by Anton, portrayed by Peter O'Toole. Over time, Anton becomes obsessed with his ownership over Zoe, and the relationship takes a turn for the worse.
"Fear"
Starring Reese Witherspoon and Mark Wahlberg, "Fear" is a 1996 movie that tells the story of an emotionally abusive relationship with a charming man that turns out to be totally psychotic. This movie has strong violence and imagery, and should be viewed with care, especially by women who are sensitive to themes of violence and abuse.
Get Pumped Up With Girl Power Movies
Once a person in a physically or emotionally abusive relationship learns to recognize being involved in one, the next step is to empower them to heal themselves and get out. While violence is not the answer for victims of bad relationships, watching movies with a strong female protagonist can help build feelings of female pride that might give abused girlfriends the boost they need to get moving.
Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2
Released in 2003 and 2004, the "Kill Bill" movies star the unforgettably powerful leading ladies Uma Thurman and Lucy Liu, among a host of other talented and strong females. Kill Bill is the story of a woman who awakens from a coma, betrayed by her partners and the baby she was carrying missing. She goes on a mad rampage to right the wrongs done to her and get revenge on those who had betrayed her. With its array of strong female protagonists and antagonists his movie is perfect for both men and women who feel that girls are week or lack power.
Thelma & Louise
Highlighting the value of close female friendships, "Thelma & Louise" is an iconic girl-power movie released in 1991 and starring Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon. In an us-against-them world, Louise (Sarandon) and Thelma (Davis) take on the forces that fight against them and find their own version of true love and friendship.
Though all movies should be taken with a grain of salt, and nobody should consider what happens in them advice or a good idea, sometimes a movie with the right feel can help put a hurting friend in a frame of mind that can help them solve their problems.
If a friend does not see the dangers of her situation or refuses to acknowledge the problems, much in the way Sammi did on the show, all of the movies about physical and emotional abuse in the world will not help them see the problem. An important part of helping a friend heal from emotional abuse is observing their desires instead of forcing them to see things in what appears to be the right way.
