Judgment Night- Four friends are on their way to watch a boxing match. There is major traffic so they take the first exit they can to try to find another way around. Bad move, they witness a murder and now the killer doesn't want any witnesses. This day suddenly turns from a planned day of fun to a race to live. This movie is really just a good get lost in the suspense kind of movie. It will keep you on the edge of your seat, and wondering what's next. 'Judgment Night' stars Cuba Gooding Jr., Emilio Estevez, Denis Leary, Stephen Dorff, and Jeremy Piven.
Blood In, Blood Out- 'Blood In, Blood out', is the story of two half-brothers Paco and Cruz and their bi-racial cousin Miklo. They are members of an L.A. gang known as 'Vatos Locos". The story takes a turn when Miklo is sent to jail for murder. Cruz becomes and artist and Paco becomes a cop. The story revolves around the three. I loved the multiple story telling in this movie and the acting was amazing. You will go through lots of emotions in this one, from happiness all the way to anger. 'Blood In, Blood Out' stars Benjamin Bratt, Damian Chapa, and Jesse Borrego.
Leon: The Professional- Leon is a professional hit-man, living a routine life in New York. When a young girl comes home to find her family has been killed, she runs to him for help. When she discovers he is a hit-man, she asks him to teach her the skills to take her revenge. The story line is very touching. Matilda transforms Leon's life and gives it meaning, the relationship between them is beautiful and it feels real. 'The Professional' stars Natalie Portman, Jean Reno, and Gary Oldman.
The Good Son- After his mom's death, 12-year-old Mark goes to live with his aunt and uncle while his father goes on a business trip. He starts hanging out with his cousin Henry, and soon realizes that Henry is very dangerous. This is my favorite Macaulay Culkin film. I guess because it's the only one that stands out as different (other than 'Part Monster' which I haven't seen). His performance is so dark and I found it very suiting for him. Elijah Wood was good too, I think they did a great job casting and writing this film. 'The Good Son' stars Macaulay Culkin and Elijah Wood.
Higher Learning- Before I even start talking about this, let me just inform you that this is my favorite movie, if you only see on movie that I am recommending pick this one. People from different countries, races, and social background are forced to integrate when they all enroll in Columbus University. They all have their own problems, such as finance, harassment, personal safety, and self doubt. I love, love, love this movie, I can't find many people who have seen it, but the ones that I have found had nothing but good things to say. 'Higher Learning' is thought provoking, powerful, and timeless. This movie will never get old because the issues covered will always be issues, that's another thing that makes it great. It has something in it everyone can relate to. 'Higher Learning' stars Omar Epps, Jennifer Connelly, Kristy Swanson, Michael Rapaport, and Ice Cube.
Well that's all for now, I will leave you with those five to get more familiar with. After i go through more of my favorite movies and find more overlooked treasures I will do a vol. 2. We'll see how many volumes I can produce : ).
