Movies for Tweens

It's hard enough to find good movies these days. But to find movies for a combination of ages is even harder. Here are my reviews of movies for kids not young enough for the baby movies, but not old enough to be teens, the ages of two of my three children.

GOONIES -1985

Directed by Richard Donner
Cast includes: Sean Astin and Corey Feldman

This classic is perfect for the young boys in your family. A group of young friends goes on the ultimate treasure hunt to try and save their homes.With everything from pirates and treasure to gun fights, they will love this movie. No major cursing involved, no nudity.

Dr. Dolittle-1998

Directed by Betty Thomas
Cast includes: Eddie Murphy and Raven Symone

Eddie Murhpy as a doctor who can talk to and understand animals. Funny factor is high in this one. No strong language or nudity involved.

Alvin and the Chipmunks -2007

Directed by Tim Hill
Cast includes: Jason Lee with Justin Long, Matther Gray Gubler, and Jesse McCartney as the voices of Alvin, Simon, and Theodore

A more updated version of the cartoon we all loved as kids, Alvin and the Chipmunks, this movie will entertain your little ones without putting you to sleep. No strong language, some innuendo, no nudity.

Nancy Drew -2007

Directed by Andrew Fleming
Cast includes: Emma Roberts and Carson Drew

An adventure movie good for not only the boys in your family, but the young girls as well. An old favorite made modern of the young Nancy Drew searching for yet another new mystery. No strong language, no nudity.

X-Men the Last Stand -2006

Directed by Brett Ratner
Cast includes: Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart

The third installment of the X-men series filled with enemies abound. With decisions to be made between right and wrong, and normal or not, this movie is good for the comic book lovers in your family. Some strong language, no nudity.

Yours, Mine and Ours -2005

Directed by Raja Gosnell
Cast includes: Dennis Quaid and Rene Russo

A hilarious look at what can happen when families combine. With 18 kids against two adults, they are majorly outnumbered. This movie will have you counting your blessings you don't have as many children as they do, while it has your children taking notes for mischief. No strong language, no nudity.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe -2005

Cast includes: Tilday Swinton, Jim Broadbent, Georgie Henley and Skandar Keynes

The movie version of the children's book, filled with good guys, bad guys, and those in between. Mysterious characters and far away lands have your young ones enthralled. No strong language, no nudity.

Man of the House -1995

Directed by James Orr
Cast includes: Chevy Chase, Farrah Fawcett and Jonathan Taylor Thomas

When a new man comes into his mothers life, a young boy decides he doesn't want to give up his position of number one. Full of mischief, this movie also holds a lesson in family. No strong language, no nudity.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End -2007

Directed by Gore Verbinski
Cast includes: Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush, and Keira Knightley

The final stage of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy is the perfect adventure movie for your tween. Pirates, treasure, secret alliances and of course the love plot with a twist. Some strong language,no nudity, slight innuendo.
