I'm not ashamed to admit it. A little look to the right, a quick glance to the left just to make sure no one sees the tears streaming down my face. I know its dark but what'll my friends say, how will my dad look me in the eye again. It's tough being a guy and being overcome by something mysterious and horrible all at the same time. Panic pure fear takes over. Anyways enough describing the notion, here's a top ten of all time guy tear jerkers in no particular order:
1) Braveheart - Here he is the man of men. William Wallace. All movie we watch him lead armies, woo woman, shake his ass at the English and then all the fun stops. Dead in its tracks. We wait in agonizing pain as he's led through the crowd. Think back, remember the first time you saw this movie. Then minute after agonizing minute I just wanted to get out of my seat. Like a bad car wreck I couldn't stop watching. Then "FREEDOM" gets rung out in surround sound. Yep, like a baby...
2) American Beauty - A beauty of a movie. Kevin Spacey even told you he was gonna die in the beginning but by the time it finally rolled around you were relating to the guy and even cheering for him. Then the shot and you knew it was over. Just a feeling of mush.
3) Black Hawk Down - C'mon those guys were bad ass. Then the scene with the soldier whose artery retracted into his leg. The music, the silence, the expressions, the desolation, utter despair. This was the moment that you realized this wasn't just a movie it was true, these soldiers actually went through what you were seeing. All that tearing up wasn't nothing compared to the end with the caskets in the hangars. What a great flick. In my humble opinion one of the greatest war movies of all time.
4) Hotel Rwanda - Don Cheadle in his best role to date. Robbed of the Oscar for that year. Literally the Oscar Shindler of Africa. A very heartbreaking movie that sheds light on a subject that never got any attention in the media. A massacre of huge proportions.
5) Platoon - Willem Dafoe dying after getting stabbed in the back while the guys in the helicopter watch helplessly. Enough said.
6) The Last of the Mohicans - The brother getting killed to the soundtrack of some of the best 3-4 minutes in movies. Harrowing. Tell me you didn't feel a sense of righteousness when the father avenged the death of his only son.
7) Shine - I know this probably wouldn't make it to a lot of top ten guy cry list BUT the end was so amazing. You watch this uphill mental battle of a pianist prodigy based on a true story. In the end he triumphs and cries himself which in my opinion is kind of like permission to bawl like a little girl. And bawl I did.
8) Rocky - Da Dada Da dada, tell me you don't tear up with every ounce of underdog blood you have in you, tell me you don't and you lie (Why else does Rocky Balboa become an "underdog" box office success?).
9) Ameros Perros - Sorry I cried, its a wretched sad tale that gets worse and worse. Expertly told and brilliantly directed.
10) March of the Penguins - Penguins, Penguins, I can't believe Penguins made me cry. Not much mind you but birds, BIRDS made me cry. Thanks Morgan Freeman, thanks for making the top 10 on the cry guy list.
Alright here's my disclaimer saying I couldn't possibly see every movie in the world so I apologize if I left your top ten movie off. But it's like crying in the shower, no can see you in the movie theater when you let the tears roll. Just beware that the lights come on when the credits roll just like your tears.
Honorable mention: Flight 93 - Watch it and you'll remember more than you care about that day. Jarring and Riveting.

Are You Joking?
American Beauty can never make anyone cry.
Think before posting anything
My list of make-me-cry movies would be more romantic girly films (like ONCE, with that amazing Falling Slowly song), but I had to leave a positive, encouraging comment to the honest, sensitive writer not afraid to feel, cry and admit it. You go guy. :)
just watchewd deep impact last night not ashamed to say i BAWLED though half the movie nad there are lots more i am a guy and love to have a good cry over movies
Interesting choices. A couple of other good ones to add to this list are "Awakenings," "Star Trek II : The Wrath of Khan," and "Breaking The Waves" with Emily Watson.
