Movies that Will Help with New Year's Resolutions

Robin Raven
Sure, it's easy to make resolutions to stay fit, give back, and be a better person on New Year's Eve. In the light of the next day, it's not always easy to stay motivated. These films should inspire you to stay on track.

"It's A Wonderful Life"

George Bailey's triumphant run through Bedford Halls, exuberant at finding Zuzu's petals and thankful to even be going to jail, is unforgettable. "It's A Wonderful Life" isn't just for Christmas. Watch it throughout the season if you start to get down or feel ungrateful. It can help you see the magical blessings in the ordinary day-to-day life.

"The Karate Kid"

Yes, it's not really discussed as the most adult movie around. Yet, the story of a child who takes it upon himself to have the self-discipline necessary to learn martial arts and defend himself is very appropriate when you are seeking inspiration to keep at your goals. Even when the going gets tough, the lead character in "The Karate Kid" follows his dream with the dedication that's needed to get through one's resolutions.

"Exotica"

With the title that embarrasses people afraid that others will think they are buying or renting porn, "Exotica" is actually a strong dramatic film from great director Atom Egoyan. "You have to ask yourself what brought the person to this point," the narrator states, providing a great lead-in at the start of the movie. This movie takes an honest, sometimes stark view of life, how we relate to one another, and tragedy. The self-examination and complexity of the characters will help keep you perhaps come up with even more resolutions.

"Ghandi"

This 1982 movie about peaceful leader Mohandas K Gandhi is sure to inspire you to want to change your own self for the better. "Ghandi" won nine Academy Awards, and it is an autobiographical tale that reveals the triumphs and struggles of the man who introduced non-violence doctrine, which thankfully has many followers today.
