Crying really helps. Keeping emotions bottled up inside will only do harm like how acid is more harmful to its container than to the object being poured upon. It is normal to feel pain and to cry, emotions cannot be turned off as quick as flicking a switch. Cry for days or even two weeks and after you have let it all out you will feel better and get tired of crying, trust me it gets tiresome and you will not want to cry after you reach a certain point of release.
Talk to dear friends or family. Use the age old remedy of having a shoulder to cry on. A friend might not be able to feel the exact same way that you do but telling someone instantly makes you feel that a load has been lifted. Let them hear you out, console and comfort you, and give you their opinion about the situation. It is always easier to bounce back from pain when you have people to support you.
Divert your attention. Constantly thinking about your loss and the pain will make it harder for you to forget and move on. Divert your attention to productive things like sculpting or painting, or arranging your closet and cleaning around the house. Start a new hobby or go out with friends that you haven't had fun with for some time because of time constraints of previously being in a relationship.
Look ahead, it is time to focus on your future. After sorrow and mourning, going forward will inevitably follow. The process of moving on will only take excruciatingly harder and longer if you do not let go of the past. You must focus on your future; what to do next, where to go, and what places to see in order to enrich your single life and be a better you. Find out how you can become a better person than that of the one in your past relationship.
These steps may be able to help you to close the recent painful chapter of your life sooner; to pick up the broken pieces of your heart and help you mend them back sooner.
