Moving Overseas (again)

John Smither
With our planned move to pastures new getting ever closer I figured it was time to inform my siblings of our intentions to leave these shores once again.

The fact that one of my sisters had asked me through the great medium of email, after reading one of my recent articles here on AC, simply called 'Movin' on.

Answering my sisters email I thought ok, it's time to come clean and inform her of where we are off to, on completing the email it was then only right to let the others know our intentions or they could be put out by hearing it not directly from the source.

Two days on from this and I have not yet heard from my brother, but knowing how hard he works and then when he returns home he has to compete with four others for the internet so it is of little surprise when I have not heard back yet. We could even have left before he gets a chance to read the email.

The route that we have to take to get to our new destination is via a couple of countries, and will take us about 21 hours, one unfortunate consequence of this long and very international journey is the restriction on taking pets on this type of trip. For this reason alone we gave our dog (Buster) to a good home. We took a long time searching for the right place for him, and he now lives in Scotland, has another dog for company and on their daily walks on the beach hunts for golf balls gone astray from the nearby golf course. It sounds like an ideal life for him. I am so pleased that we found him such a good and loving home, he has forgotten us already so excited by his having a new four legged best friend.

Now another downside to this part of the story is my niece, she loved to play with Buster whenever we visited or they came up to see us. She is now deeply upset at the thought of never seeing Buster again and will probably not speak to me on the next occasion we visit (in about 2-3 weeks). Although the large bag of her favourite candy will help her to get over this I am sure, not that I would ever condone any sort of bribery.

This morning the plane tickets were bought, in the next few weeks we have a multitude of things to be done, a hectic time of selling what we can, giving away what we no longer need or cannot then take with us.

The excitement is building up for our new venture, the plan once we arrive is to write regularly of our adventures and our experiences here on AC, just so we can inform anyone interested of our progress. Although sometimes getting a good internet connection may hinder our ability to keep in touch and up to date in the way we are used to. Quite an interesting future awaits us.

I had often felt that I had a book inside me ready to be written (many of us have I know), well it has been but now I need to get it published. Until recently I never knew I could write poems, that is my nex...  View profile

I hope all goes well with your move. I know how stressful it can be to move abroad.

Carol, in reply to your question, yes, I will still be writing on here. The plan is to write Belize related articles amongst other things, to write of our adventures etc.

I'm glad you found Buster a good home. You two move so much, I'm beginning to suspect you are international fugitives! :)

Well hello John, I hate to know that you are leaving just as I am meeting you, but it sounds as if you have been overseas before. I wonder where you are going. Maybe you will tell me sometime. I would like to go sometime, but my wife isn't mush interested. I have a friend in NZ, and another in Australia that I would like to visit sometime. Is this connected with your job? Anyway, I am pleased to meet you and will be reading your writes soon.
