Mozilla Announces New Firefox Web Browser

On Monday, May 10, 2010, Mozilla announced plans for Firefox4. Currently scheduled for end of Year 2010, speculation is that the date will be extended, as per the history of other browser releases. This new browser is supposedly a major new release. Currently Mozilla commands 25 percent market share in the web browser world. The hope is that this new release will help Mozilla gain in usage share.

There are currently three primary goals for the new Firefox 4.

• Performance

• Powerful

• User in Control

Starting out Firefox 4 is going for a cleaner new user interface that will look good in modern Operating Systems such as Windows 7 and Vista. The new browser will support both touch and multitouch and some form of hardware accelerated display.

As for performance, Mozilla is stating that the new web browser will be super fast, but not having to preload plug-ins all the time and by having few interface controls.

Firefox4 seeks power by adopting HTML 5 standards and beyond in an attempt to out browse other browsers. By adopting HTML5 before the current Google Chrome, Firefox is hoping to be able to use newer technologies to spearhead the campaign in order to gain higher usage share.

Third, Firefox4 wants users to be in more control of their web browser and their browsing experience.

Mozilla is planning for beta versions being ready in June, but this could be July or August if previous versions are used as planning for this web browser.

Will you still be able to use the old add-ons for this new Firefox 4 coming out? This is my only comment against the new developments of Firefox... newer versions sometimes prevent me from using my favorite add-ons. :(
