Mozilla Firefox: Tips and Tricks

Derek Odom
Mozilla Firefox is by far the best web browser I have used to date. It is very customizable by the user, and runs into far less problems than Internet Explorer. Everything from the text front and size to the way bookmarks are setup is completely customizable, allowing the user to really dig in and get what they want out of an Internet browser.

Setting the Fonts
Go into the Tools > Options menu in Firefox, and select the "Content" tab. From there, located approximately at the middle of the box, you will find Fonts and Colours. From this area, any and all possible fonts and sizes can be changed and played with. Going to the "Advanced" tab allows you to further refine the font.

Change File Download Destination
Go into the Tools > Options menu, and select the "Main" tab. About three-quarters of the way down in the box, you will find "Save files to" and then a blank box to the right of it. Click the round dot to the left of the option, and then click the Browse button. When you find the place on your PC you wish all downloaded files to go to, simply click it and then click "OK" in the Mozilla Firefox box.

Set the Homepage
Go to the Internet page you wish to be the homepage in Mozilla Firefox, and copy the address to the clipboard by highlighting it and pressing Control + C. Go into the Tools > Options menu, and once again access the "Main" tab. Paste the address in the box to the right of the "Home Page" section, and click "OK". Now whenever Mozilla Firefox starts, that page will be shown.

Keep your Browsing History
Go into the Tools > Options menu, select the "Privacy" section. The top option in the box is how many days Mozilla Firefox keeps your site browsing history. This is an especially nice feature if you have kids, and wish to know where they are going on the Internet, or if you do a lot of surfing and sometimes forget where you have been, but wish to find that page again. To access this at any time, go to "History" on the Mozilla Firefox menu bar, and click "Show all history". If the entire history does not pop up right away, click "History" on the upper left and those sites will appear in the white area. You can also access this by pressing Control+Shift+H while in Firefox.

Keep Your Favorites in View
Go to View > Toolbars in the Mozilla menu, and click on "Bookmarks Toolbar". This enables you to copy any web location, and paste it just under the address bar. An icon will be created right there on the Mozilla Firefox skin for quick browsing. It is then possible to right click the item, and choose "Properties", and rename the bookmark if it is too long. I have found this feature so extremely handy that I use it every single day, all day in my own Firefox browser. I keep my top fifteen or so sites right there under the address bar, in the order I wish to view them from right to left.
