Mr. Chip's Review on Walt Disney's "THE GAME PLAN"

Mr. Chip's
Before I offer another of my in my opinion unbiased, totally and like I am not really being paid to give my good or bad opinions on another movie that has crossed my radar or hit my sonar. I need to "preach" just a little. So either enjoy or endure for just a bit while I blurb.

Before I start this review. And I will use what I am about to write and say as a "yard-stick" for my future reviews dealing with the really...really younger generation perhaps I'd estimate under 8 years old. And I will use it to measure the so-called Disney family films gendre. Firstly, "The Game Plan" in my humble opinion is not a family film in the strictest sense of family films of my experience. It is an age appropriate film. I debated this fact in a nice way with a dearly beloved relative of mine. I would not show this movie to very young children and I am asking that you in the audience do the same. Because for one it is fortunately clearly marked with "common sense" warnings for the very young. Such as the rating (PG) not the familiar old fashioned rated (G) of the my baby boomer generation and a true mark of the real wonderful world of Disney movies that were a staple on Sunday night. Other warnings are the information on DVD,VHS or whatever your format that states "some material may not be suitable for children" and I repeat "for children" please heed the warnings. Lastly back to the rating of (PG) for the movie having some mild thematic elements in it, you will see adults drinking and we are not talking about soda or kool-aid. You will see adults at parties when children are normally sleep and most of the time you or I would never have our little ones in their "PJ's" at an adult cocktail party. So please when you Read the DVD,VHS jacket or glean information and see magazines, critics, talking - heads calling this a heartwarming family film. Don't believe all the hype. Because hype is just a way to sell a movie to a public that Holly-weird (the powers that be) thinks is asleep and not really paying attention. But we are smarter than that. Ok that's the end of my sermon...hopefully my first and last. Now on to my review.

To the brave souls who have held on for my review I will not disappoint. You probably think that now I will shoot down "The Game Plan" wrong...it is a terrific film for the right audience. Here are the main characters that stuck-out with me but the movie is loaded with a wealth of good talent of actors and actresses, story, plot scenery, imagery etc.

The movie stars the one and only and one time college football player, Mr. Dwayne"THE ROCK" Johnson as Joe Kingman QB of the Boston Rebels, his CO-Star is the delightful and talented little Miss Madison Pettis as Peyton who really gives a stellar performance in a starring role with "The Rock", Kyra Sedgwick is Stella ,Joe Kingmans agent she is tough and beautiful, Morris Chestnut is Sanders one Joe's superlative but overlooked receivers, Roselyn Sanchez is Ms. Vasquez a prima ballerina and owner her own ballet school and last but not least is the stand-out four legged actor and Joe's right-hand man "SPIKE" (The Bulldog) and like I said if you disagree with my picks their is more than enough of colorful characters for all family members.

Now to what the movie is about or what I got out of it: The basis of the movie is about Joe Kingman, a selfish and self-centered football player who is only looking out for "numero uno." Until the day the daughter he never knew he had, 8 year old Peyton walks into his life. A skeptical Joe can't believe that this happening to him. In fact before Peyton formally introduces herself Joe thinks that she's selling Girl Scout cookies and offers to buy a box and flashes a hundred dollar bill at her. But she doesn't it. Then he offers to give her a Joe kingman souvenir and she still refuses. She states that she is looking for her father. And Joe offers to help her find him. Peyton looks up at Joe and tells him I don't need help finding him because he's looking at me right now. At this point Joe goes into major panic mode. The only so-called person that has been in Joe's life has been his dog,Spike. From there things only get wilder. Without giving up too much here are a few hi-lights. Peyton and daddy Joe in the kitchen and a blender mess that will "crack-you-up." Joe and Stella try to find Peyton a Nanny and Peyton gets the Nanny fired and Stella does the firing and without missing a beat puts on her shades as Peyton and Joe and Stella drive away. Peyton gives Joe some cookies she has baked except they have cinnamon and Joe is allergic to cinnamon and you will reel with laughter Joe suffers no ill effects just a crazy speech pattern. I really enjoyed it. And perhaps the movies will get better and funnier as time goes on like the good ole wonderful world of Disney Movies. CHEERS and GOD BLESS.
