We open, while still intertwined with the credits, on a mid shot of John and Jane in a counselor's room being interviewed about their relationship as a married couple. Giving us two key points of information about this film straight away.
It is not serious, it is of course a satire of how married life is a battle ground and also that rather than a look at a married couple and their lives as assassins, it is a film about looking at a couple of assassins' married life.
The final straw and hurdle comes when the counselor asks them a rather simple question, how often do they have sex. Which confusion ensues, does he mean on a 1 to 10 scale, is 1 a lot or is 10 a lot, it is easy to deduce for anybody I am sure that they have not had sex in a long time, a long time!
The direction is good for the most part, in some of the more complex action pieces the camera work goes a tad shoddy, and the cuts do not always match up completely. However the slower paced editing than you find in most action-killer type movies nowadays is a nice change of pace.
It makes the action more intimate and you connect with the Smiths more of the time. Brad was good, but only good, I usually love him no matter what he is in, but he failed to impress me now, perhaps as his looks are starting to do, his acting skills are deserting him.
Angelina however was very impressive, she kicked Brad's ass on both the acting scale, and the one which measures how cool a person is, she totally rocked in this movie, and she is amazingly HOT, I wholly believe she should play Cat woman.
Vince Vaughn was quite nice in the role of Eddie, but he is very much playing the character he has in most things recently, the scared very introspective man-child. I hate Adam Brody, and cannot compliment him at all, nor the casting directors for making me watch him in this.
Although the film's plot is ludicrous, that is not the point; the analysis of a modern marriage was quite nice. The film on a whole though was a tad unimpressive, it did not inspire much of a reaction, but I think in a year's time when I watch it again I will enjoy it about 30% more.
