Mr. Toilet's New House May Be Strange, but He's Not the Only Eccentric with a Floorplan

What Does a Giant Toilet, a UFO and Hubcaps All Have in Common?

Robert Cole
Sim Jae-duck was born in a public restroom. It was only destiny that he should grow up to become the chairman to the World Toilet Association and later build the world's first 24 foot tall toilet shaped house. His new mansion was a $1.1 million dollar venture that, to him, was well worth the money.

As odd as a toilet house erected by a toilet fanatic named Mr. Toilet sounds, more strange things have happened in the world of home design. Take for instance the hubcap house in Peoria, Illinois. This house is completely covered in dusty hubcaps plucked from the Peoria city streets. Everything from the door to the picket fence is blanketed in circular abandoned hubcaps that have been nailed on by Ron Innes, the hubcap home's peculiar owner. Innes died in 2002 but left behind his local legacy before the place was dismantled in 2006.

For another example eccentric home designs, take the Spaceship house in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The house has been the subject of major media attention and thousands of visitors have come to visit since it's creation in 1970. The builder of this weird home, C.W. King, originally wanted to erect other houses like it but discovered the cost would be too much to handle. The Spaceship house is constructed on four tripod legs that suspends the ovulated home above the ground. The result looks like, well, an authentic alien spacecraft fit with an earthen clearing encircling the UFO like a moat. Garage parking isn't a problem and two cars can comfortably fit under the belly of this massive white home. This famous house, located just off highway 127, is up for sale by the owner for $184,500. At nearly 2,000 square feet, this strange house secures itself as the most unique home design in Tennessee and it's real estate listing can be found on loopnet.com.

All through history there are examples of off-beat people building off-the-wall homes. Michael Jackson's Neverland Valley Ranch and Chile's Glass House are two more examples of eccentric home designs that have made the front page, but when it comes to the strange and unorthodox, Sim Jae-duck may take the cake with a toilet themed house. His obsession and life long dedication to progressing the world of toilets is admirable, but difficult to identify with for most people which is probably what makes his home so unique. Normally an average person doesn't want to stick around in the bathroom long after the flush- but Mr. Toilet knows better than that. To him, toilets are more than a thing to sit on- they're a way of life. And for many of these people, a home is more than a nice lawn and a paint job- it's an extension of the imagination.
