I only purchase cruelty-free natural products for my home. Mrs. Meyer's is one of the staple brands I use. When it came time to replace my automatic dishwashing detergent Mrs. Meyer's was one of the first brands I went to. I planned to just purchase the same scent I purchased last time but noticed the basil scent was on sale and a lot cheaper. I'm not one to miss out on a deal and my pocket book can always use the savings. I opted to try the basil scent for the discount and also figuring the scent didn't matter much when it comes to automatic dishwashing.
I don't use an average size automatic dishwasher. Mine is what is called a tabletop or counter-top dishwasher. It doesn't need as much detergent as a full size dishwasher. I have found that when it comes to Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day automatic dishwashing detergent I don't have to fill the detergent cup all the way. In fact I find I can fill it only 1/4 of the way and it still cleans my dishes without leaving any film.
As much as I love Mrs. Meyer's automatic dishwashing products I have a complaint about this scent. One of the things I love about Mrs. Meyer's is the nice natural scents that their products have. My disappointment in the basil scent is that it smells like perfume. It does not in the least smell like basil. I don't know what it smells like, anything more than saying perfume.
The worst part is my dishes end up smelling like perfume. Even my plastic dishes end up with a mild taste of the scent. That is the main reason I lowered the amount I use to 1/4 the amount. Thankfully it still cleans well with such a small amount. The scent is still there but not as strong now.
Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day automatic dishwashing detergent gets the job done but when my next automatic dishwashing detergent purchase comes around I will still stick with Mrs. Meyer's but i'll stay away from the unnaturally perfumey basil scent.

Post a CommentThanks for this information. I have never heard of this brand, and basil is a very unique aroma for a cleansing product. I will try another scent based on your review. I love trying natural and cruelty-free products as much as possible as well.
I think the perfume-like scent would bother me, too! Thanks for an honest review of Mrs. Meyers Clean Day Basil Scent Automatic Dishwashing Detergent.
