MSM and Glucosamine Help with Bad Joints

Jamie Burke
Recently I went to the doctor to see if I had arthritis in my knees. For a long time I've had a lot of knee pain and at times, my knees just give out on me. Fortunately for me, I do not seem to have arthritis. It did not show up on the x-rays that they took. But, that still does not explain why I have the pain.

Except for the fact that I am over weight. It adds a lot of pressure to my knee joints and makes for extra wear and tear. So how to help with this problem?

Of course, losing weight would help the most, but in the mean time, I have to find joint relief. I have found it with MSM and Glucosamine.

Now, it doesn't completely erase the pain, but it does ease it and helps to repair damage being done to my joints. It is a natural supplement.

MSM (Methyl Sulfonyl Methane) was pinpointed in the 1980's by Robert Herschler and Dr. Stanley Jacob of the University of Oregon Medical School. MSM is a natural sulfur compound that is found in most living things. While it can be easily found, even in humans, it doesn't always get absorbed the way it needs to be. Many of the foods that we eat contain this compound, but will lose it after all of the processing and cooking that we do to our food. In order to get enough to help our bodies, it is safe to take it just like taking a regular vitamin.

The MSM will help in adding flexibility to cell walls and will allow fluids to pass through tissue much easier. The tissue becomes more pliable, which is important as we age.

Glucosamine helps the joints because it stimulates the cartilage cells. It can actually rebuild cartilage that has been lost because of arthritis or injury. It can also slow down the process of arthritis in the joints. It is a small molecule and can be easily absorbed.

The combination of the two, makes for more flexible and dependable joints. I say dependable, because as I must climb stairs at work everyday, the supplement helps my knees to function. There have been times when climbing the stairs, that I felt my knees would buckle on me. Using the supplement, I may still have days that I have that occur, but they are much less likely.

The supplement also seems to help with my fatigue. In our fast paced world, it seems being tired and worn down all of the time is the norm. Adding MSM and Glucosamine to my diet helps me to fend it off.

While many people tend to shy away from taking pills for aliments, I want to encourage you to try MSM and Glucosamine if you suffer from any joint pain or stiffness. Remember that it is not a drug, but a dietary supplement. Of course, always talk with your doctor first about anything you take. I've never had a bad reaction or interaction with other supplements or medicines I take, but each body is different and must be considered on an individual basis.
