MSNBC Interviewed Me for Project Elkhart Because of My AC Articles on Obama Visits

Obama Visits to Elkhart Articles Got Me Noticed by MSNBC

Shana Dines
I got a call from Mike Stuckey from MSNBC to be interviewed about my visits and opinion on Obama since he was elected as President of the United States. He read and liked my articles on seeing Obama before he became President at Concord High School in Elkhart, Indiana. He liked that I went to visit Obama without having an opinion either way on whether I liked his platform before I made an opinion on him. I also was honored to be able to see him at Concord High School after he became President of the United States. You can read about my experience here.

He is doing an article on me for MSNBC for the Elkhart Project. It is about how things have changed and what people have gone through because of the recession and how they feel Obama has done in his first year of office as President of the United States. Elkhart, Indiana was one of the hardest hit areas in the country because of the recession. Gas prices caused major stress on the Recreational Vehicle industry. Many companies closed and had to file bankrupcty. MSNBC has interviewed many local people who have been effected by the economy.

We talked for over an hour on the telephone. They may want to take a photograph of me in my studio. I had to laugh when I told him that my studio is basically in my dining room in my house. I am very curious to read what he writes about me in the article, which can be read online at this web site.

I told him that I have actually lost friendships because of people who are so rabid about their political beliefs. I said that I don't force others to listen to how I feel. If someone believes as I do I have no problem with them discussing their politics with me but that I don't like people trying to cram their political views on to me. I have actually quit listening to WFRN Christian radio because they continue to bash Obama. I listen to their music but but turn the station when they start talking politics. I said that some of the worst ones are those that proclaim their Christianity the loudest. I know there are going to be many from the area who are not happy with my interview. I feel that is just too bad. I have as much as a right to my opinion as anyone else does.

I also told him that I don't agree with everything that Obama has done but that he has been faced with a nearly insurmountable task and to expect him to conquer the United States problems at all, letting alone in a year is ridiculous. I agree that healthcare reform is necessary. I agree that education is very important and I believe that he is levelheaded and sincere. I also love his wife Michelle and all that she has done to help inner city children. If you are interested in reading more about what I told him in my interview you can read it on February 9th, 2010 at the above web site.

He has also interviewed others in the area and has been to different events including the celebration of Martin Luther King Day in Elkhart yesterday. He was very impressed by the black minister who stressed the importance of kids taking responsibility for their behavior, getting education and staying on a straight path.

All in all I think that there have been many positive changes in the past year. There is no easy fix. I wish there was less division in our country and everyone on both sides would work together to make our country and our world happier, healthier and stronger. It is important for our and our childrens' futures. "God bless the whole world no exceptions" as a very familiar bumper stick says.

Not all Christians are anti-Obama. Many are closet Obama fans because of living in the Bible belt because many Christians believe that you can't be a Christian and support Obama.

How cool, Shana! I tried finding your story on the site you gave but couldn't. As for the Christian radio station, I have never understood why they, churches, and evangelicals put their noses in politics to begin with because they don't belong there.

You do have just as much right to an opinion as anyone else. I agree with Paul about being true to yourself. Now just look at the rewards! You are awesome!

Congratulations Shana. This is something we all hope will happen to us.

This is awesome, Shana! I can't wait to read the interview. I'm like you. I don't like it when people bash the political and religious views of others.
