If you are tired of crowed slopes and long lift lines, give the Mt. Shasta Ski Park a try. It is about a six or seven hour drive from San Francisco and about four hours from Sacramento. You can fly into Redding and then drive the 65 miles to the Park. Located a few miles off Interstate 5 at the foot of Mt. Shasta, the Ski Park is easily reachable and presents no scary mountain driving. Lodging in McCloud or Mt. Shasta is less expensive than that found in the better-known ski resorts and the Mt. Shasta Ski Park is just a few miles drive from either town.

The Mt. Shasta Ski Park is 425 acres of great skiing or snowboarding. Annual snowfall is around 275" and the Mt. Shasta Ski Park also makes its own snow so quantity and quality of the snow is usually good. Slopes are also groomed, using the latest equipment. There are 3 chairlifts and a beginner's tow, which take the skier or snowboarder to 31 trails (14 at night). There are trails for every level of skier or boarder with 20% for the beginner, 55% intermediate, and 25% advanced. The highest goes up to 6880 feet and offers an exhilarating view. The longest trail is 1.75 miles long.

For the snowboarder the Mt. Shasta Ski Park has a Half Pipe and a Super Half Pipe which is 300 feet long and has walls up to 15 feet high. There is a Revolution Terrain Park with a 1000 foot vertical drop and has 10 hits, stepdown, spine, and a dozen rails and boxes.

The Mt. Shasta also offers Nordic sports for the cross-country skier or snowshoer. The trails are snowshoe packed and dogs are allowed.

Instruction in all levels of skiing and snowboarding is available and all instructors are members of the Professional Ski Instructors of America.

You can rent all equipment at the Ski Park or in Mt. Shasta. There is no ski rental in McCloud.

The Mt. Shasta Ski Park has four restaurants where you can refuel and relax.
The Coyote Grill offers fish and chips, burgers (salmon, beef, and garden), sodas and Micro beers. BC's has breakfast fast foods and Pizza. The Timberline Grill serves grilled sausages, BBQ beef and pork sandwiches, veggie and beef burgers, sodas and micro beers. The Powerderhound Café has deli sandwiches, salads, and snacks.

Be sure to bring a camera because you will want to brag to your friends about your new find-the Mt. Shasta Ski Park.
