MTV Movie Awards 2011 Poorly Received by Tennessee Viewers

The MTV Movie Awards and their standing differs greatly depending upon who you ask. Some consider the event a playful testament to the entertainment medium - others observe them with nothing but contempt. It's no secret that the awards show is little more than a popularity contest. Like the reviled Spike Video Games, the MTV Movie Awards largely alienates its target audience and attracts only narrow-minded enthusiasts. The 2011 show has attracted a great amount of controversy - many are calling foul on the awards program. Movie fans across Tennessee have been very vocal about the results.

"It was just as stupid as I figured it would be. As everyone expected, the mindless sheep voted for 'Twilight: Eclipse' in every category they could. Actually, what bothered me more than the love given to sparkling vampires was the lack of support given to original films. Sure they gave out some token spotlight to appear diverse, but it was still jaded. Terrible romances and klutzy comedies were the only types to shine." Devin Malone, 26, Memphis

"How the heck did 'Easy A' win anything? Don't get me wrong. I can't stand 'Twilight,' but that terrible re-visioning of Scarlet Letter was just an unfunny bore. What is wrong with people? MTV should be ashamed." Ruth Sweeny, 20, Millington

"After the third award given to the pretentious garbage that is 'Twilight,' I turned it off. It was all I could stand. With so many other deserving films from last year, how could they select that idiocy? Once again the mainstream proves it can't digest a decent plot and has to be spoon-fed on cinematic filth. Well, back I go to independent films." Anthony Ervin, 29, Memphis

"I was disappointed to see 'Kick-Ass' only get a couple of awards. I felt like it got neither the respect it deserved, nor the praise it was warranted. The perfect modern take on superheroes and that's all the love you show it, MTV?" Richie Weber, 37, Jackson

"I was overjoyed to see 'Twilight' steal the show. I did my part. I must have voted a couple hundred times. It deserves every drop of praise! There's no love story more perfect than that of Bella and Edward! Thank you, MTV!" Tameka Woodard, 30, Cordova

"I was perplexed when 'Kick-Ass' managed to win an award or two, but other than that- I wasn't surprised. I didn't appreciate MTV showering so much praise on that god-awful vampire series. It was cool seeing the Bieb though." Alex Fisk, 18, Collierville

"My kids and I were cheering when we saw Robert Patterson take home the best male performance award. It would have been a crime against humanity if he didn't get it. I was equally thrilled to see Kristen Stewart get the award for female performance. Then again, she was a shoe-in. She's a magnificent actress." Javan Knicker, 47, Fraser

"I certainly wish I'd seen some more awards given to a certain wizard, but that's how it works. If MTV expects their viewers to ever vote with maturity and taste, they'll be forever disappointed. I liked seeing Chloe Moretz get an award." Greg Palmer, 25, Memphis
