MTV Skins is In, but Advertisers Are Out (Links)

In addition to Jersey Shore, MTV has brought another racy and controversial show to its lineup called Skins. While Skins may be "in" with young teens everywhere, the advertisers are quickly pulling out to due its rather graphic and in some cases offensive material.

The show is about nine high school friends as they journey through teenage adolescence including sexual and drug/alcohol issues. Click here to learn more about Skins.

MTV is a cable channel based in New York that was launched in August, 1981.

It was Taco Bell who pulled out first and they are now joined by Wrigley Gum, General Motors, and H&R Block according to a report by RadarOnline.

Wrigley executives released a statement on January 22 stating, "It was never our intent to endorse content that would offend consumers."

MTV is defending its decision to air Skins, saying they are "in compliance with all applicable legal requirements, but also with our responsibilities to our viewers."

Skins premiered last Monday, January 17 at 10/9C on MTV and attracted a huge audience of some 3.3 million viewers.

I am so glad that reality shows can do whatever they want, yet a fictional show causes all of this controversy.
