MTV Video Music Awards Adds New Category, '˜Best Video with a Message': Taylor Swift's 'œMean' Nominated

MTV announced on August 4, 2011 that there will be a new category on the 2011 MTV Video Awards Show. The new category will be 'Best Video with a Message.' The new category seems to be a good fit for the awards show and will add some social activisn.

The nominees for this year's 'Best Video with a Message' are:

Eminen f/Rihanna, "Love the Way You Lie"

Lady Gaga, "Born This Way"

Katy Perry, "Firework"

Taylor Swift, "Mean"

P!nk, "F****** Perfect"

Rise Against, "Make It Stop (September's Children)"

Personally, I'll be pulling for Taylor Swift's "Mean" video to win because I am a country music fan. "Mean" sends a good message out to viewers about overcoming bullying. Swift is featured in the video as a small town performer who makes it big and is now a superstar. That's pretty much a true to life tale, but the video also features others overcoming different situations in being bullied at school.

'Mean' is a feel-good video and that's why it made the list of nominations. 'Mean' is powerful and brings the message of being mean will get you nowhere in life home. Just remember this line from the video whenever you think of bullies, "Someday I'll be big enough so you won't hit me...and all you're gonna be is mean." It's quite a powerful message and video that appeals to both children and adults for a positive outlook on a sensitive subject.

Swift was super excited over the nomination according to MTVand immediately sent the following tweet, "Wait, what?! The 'Mean' video got nominated for a VMA!! BEYOND excited. If you feel like voting ...... MTV.com." Swift followed up the tweet with not one, but three smiley faces.

The 28th Annual MTV Video Music Awards will be aired live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angles, California. The awards show will air at 8:00 CST on Sunday, August 28, 2011 on MTV, of course!
