MTV's 16 & Pregnant

While most people would raise an eyebrow at this topic, let's face it this is the way our world is and many teens are becoming pregnant now a days. Hopefully it's an epidemic that will change as we as community work harder to reach out to teens and teach them of proper ways to protect them from pregnancy or teach them abstinence.

I was impressed while I watched this show, my teen daughter wanted to watch is and I felt that I needed to watch this show first before letting her to see how they managed to show the average 16 year old that had become pregnant.

This show portrayed the teen girls in many different lights. There were some who had supportive parents who helped with the care of the infants, to parents who felt their children got themselves into this mess and would need to clearly handle it themselves. Many of those types of parents felt that if their child was old enough to do an adult act then they were old enough to raise their infant on their own without the parent's involvement with night feedings and diapering.

Many teen girls who feel the need to have a baby young are clueless to the real goings on when it comes to raising a child. 16 & Pregnant puts this into perspective for these girls by showing them the true goings on of raising a child through the first few months, it also helps bring to light the unpleasant parts of pregnancy and childbirth.

Perhaps a show like this can show teens that it's as easy as they think it is that they will be giving up a lot. This show covers many different aspects, from the picture perfect scenario where it all works out and the teen mom is able to still be a teen while raising her new infant to the new teen mom who has had to go through cyber school, lost many friends and the father of the infant decided he did not want part of the child once it was born. They embrace all the possibilities of a teen pregnancy from the good to the bad.
