MTV's Jersey Shore Dictionary: The Slang You Can't Live Without

Jersey Shore is a cultural phenomenon for a variety of reasons. Perhaps most importantly, though, is their efforts to bring guido and guidette language to the masses. The Situation, Pauly D, Vinny, Ronnie, J-Wow, Sammi, Snooki, and even Angelina brought Jersey Shore slang to MTV in season one, and new terms are being brought to us in season two.

Following is a short list of Jersey Shore slang that we should all be familiar with. In the future, you won't be able to function in society without knowing these terms. Without further adieu, here's the list:

GTL: Gym, tan, laundry. The Situation does this every day. It's important to look good, so GTL must be regularly done. Season two brings us the next step in GTL: Gym, Tan, Smush. By the way, the tan is either with a tanning bed or a spray... not at the actual beach.

Creeping: When a guy hits on a girl while at the bar, often when both the guy and the girl have been drinking heavily. In the 90's we had macking, now we have creeping.

Gorilla: A guido who is hopped up on steroids. The Jersey Shore girls especially like gorillas. A gorilla party is when a pack of gorillas descend on the beach. They're also sometimes called juiceheads.

Fist Pump: A style of dance where the fist is repeatedly pumped in the air, best performed by Vinny. The danger in this dance is armpit sweat.

Smush: Having sex, making love or, um, courting aggressively. You can also call it pounding it out.

Grenade: An unattractive girl who must be distracted in order to creep on her friend. Usually she's heavy. It helps when there is a wingman to jump on that grenade. Thanks Pauly D!

Landmine: Like a grenade, only instead of being heavy, she's thin and unattractive. She's a landmine because she's a little more hidden than a grenade. The lights are dark, you've had a few drinks, right? It's hard to tell.

Hippo: A large, unattractive girl who, by definition, is a grenade. Also sometimes called an elephant or a zoo creature.

Double bagger: When a girl is so ugly that you have to put a bag over her head, and your own head! Wow, that's an ugly girl!

Robbery: When you steal another guido's girl from him. For example, when Vinny was making out with a girl and steps away to go to the bathroom, The Situation commits a robbery and starts making out with her. Sloppy seconds, anyone?

Stage five clinger: A stalker, or someone who just won't leave you alone. In season one, Pauly D had a stage five clinger in Israeli chick Danielle.
