MTV's "Jersey Shore:" at Least Snooki's Cute!

Jersey Shore Seems Degrading to Italian Americans

Donald Pennington
Where can a surfer go that they're not hearing about MTV's newest hit "Jersey Shore?" The show's getting mileage to such a point that even Wiley's "Non-Sequitur" gives them a mention. After having tried watching an episode at MTV.com, I've come to the realization that, I'll never get those few minutes of my life back.

Is MTV's Jersey Shore even realistic?

What? Are you kidding? Of course the show's not realistic. That's why it's on reality TV. MTV has a penchant though, for making crap television shows that appeal to folks, who just might not know better. Remember "The Real World?" Not real. But what can we expect of a network named Music Television but plays no music videos?

MTV's Jersey Shore fans: Easily amused?

This is simply my opinion that shows like MTV's latest hit, Jersey Shore, is sucking the brains out of the heads of America's youth. Watch shows like this one long enough and you may end up actually craving "MythBusters" or a "NOVA" re-run. Others are more than welcome to disagree and tell me where to "get off" for "dissing" their favorite show. I don't mind.

Let's hope that, while MTV's Jersey Shore might entertain viewers, it doesn't truly resonate with anyone.

We all know it will. A simple trip downtown, in "Anytown, USA" on a Friday night will show just how tiny the human brain can shrink to. This show is all about "having a good time," sleeping in, and showing off muscles. Frankly, were I an Italian/American, I'd be offended. The Italian/Americans I've been lucky enough to meet are far classier than anything represented on Jersey Shore.

There are some good things about MTV's Jersey Shore. Right?

Of course there are! For one: Thanks to this show being produced, someone has a job. Lots of people are making a good living from this show. Then there's all those companies getting the exposure by buying their advertising. But maybe the best part of this show: Snooki!

What? Snooki's the best part of MTV's Jersey Shore?

Yes. This little gem just might go places. All that "cute" wrapped up in one package is bound to spill over into other parts of television. We can already see that she's the first character from Jersey Shore to get spoofed. Don't folks who do parody usually go for the big score first? Regardless of how cute Snooki may be on Jersey Shore I still can't bear the idea of throwing so much time away.

  • I hope Jersey Shore characters don't end up role models.
  • Shows like Jersey Shore are proof that our heads are shrinking.
  • Who needs illicit drugs when we have shows like Jersey Shore to warp minds?
Even with as cute as Snooki is I still can't bear the thought of wasting so much time.

The show probably is degrading to Italian Americans, but, what's far more offensive to me--an American who's more Italian than anything else: it's "reality TV."

I've watched a few episodes. The guy that seems to think he's the best looking and the greatest is the worst in my opinion. I'm sure you can figure out which one I'm talking about.

Sad to see what is considered entertainment for kids these days.

I have to tell ya.... I'm part Italian, and I've watched Jersey Shore. When I watch the show, I don't think it really makes Italians look bad, it just makes all 20-ish people look bad. I really hated the show, but not because of how it made Italians look.
