"Skins" Making Waves with Parents

MTV's new program "Skins" is making waves with parents who say the show is bordering on child pornography. The real question is does "Skins" cross the line with the depiction of sex, drugs and rock n roll with teens? Is MTV's "Skins" child pornography or real issues? You decide as a parent.

Many parents say yes. "Skins" has many actors under the age of 18 and this has parents worried. This new MTV program seems to show teens in a light that is not glamorous in any way. It involves teens using drugs, having sex and drinking.

There is also too much skin shown in this show. It could make teens think its okay to dress this way or even try to portray their favorite actor. So many scenarios could play out from this controversial show. "Skins" does deal with many controversial issues that teens face everyday but they could deal with it in a way that does not portray teens having sex and using drugs.

Is "Skins" violating child pornography statues? This question stems from an episode due to air January 31 depicting a 17-year-old running down the street nude. Producers were told t o make changes to the more explicit episodes of the show.

Teenagers see and hear many things everyday in school and when out with friends but many feel this show is going overboard. "Skins" is showing teens in a bad light, yes teens do things that are not so great when away from parents but many feel it isn't as bad as what "Skins" is portraying.

Parents need to sit down and watch one episode of "Skins" with their teen child and then discuss the issues of the show. The show does deal with hardcore issues of sex, drugs and rock n roll. However, do teens think life is really this way or just how MTV is portraying teens?

    Out of those raising objections, I wonder how many adults have actually seen this show. According to the MTV schedule, only one episode has aired, and it was far less racy that the recent bedroom farce episode of "The Big Bang Theory."

    I share the concern of the question you raise but take it further because it is the perception of some adults especially in the market place that kids are available for this exploitation for profit and the people making money form it like their families seem to available. I cannot share what I really think here.
