This was the statement Miley Cyrus is quoted as given in the Fox news article I read today. Everyone is evidentially in an uproar over recent spread of Vanity Fair pictures made by the famous Photographer Annie Leibovitz. The main controversy surrounds a picture of her draped in a white cloth which basically only exposes her back which is turned to the camera. It wasn't meant to be sexy at all but artistic. People feel this may be in violation of her wholesome image she portrays as television's Hannah Montana.
As a mother of a 13-, 12-, 10- and 8-year old I understand why some might be upset at the prospect of Miley going non-G Rated. There are some things you have to take into consideration before you go off the deep end with the press.
The first thing is that this is a fairly new article and I think her fast response was very admirable on her part. She was quick to be honest and clear things right up concerning the photo shoot and to give details she didn't have to give. I also think the press is blowing the sexual thing way out of proportion and is hinting to other pictures they haven't even verified if they are Miley Cyrus at all.
I think this whole fiasco is much ado about absolutely, positively nothing at all. I think it's more about selling articles and magazines than it is about the actual topic. There are plenty of other fifteen year old celebrities doing things of a more prurient nature. As far as I am concerned her squeaky clean image is still intact with me.
Miley isn't twelve any more and you cannot bottle her up and expect her to stay that way. She has to make the decisions as to what is right for her and you make the decisions with your dollars to support her decision or not. I just find it amazing you can troll the internet and find fifteen year olds selling their bodies on webcams for pleasure. Why not go after that instead? Oh yeah, that doesn't sell magazines sorry, I forgot.
If anything, Miley will sell more records now. I don't think this will affect anyone buying her records who hasn't already bought them before, if they do their homework. Smart moms and dads will read multiple sources and get a common sense view on what is going on rather that some hearsay and that is just what I did. I frankly think she is doing above average for someone in the business. If my kids ask for a Hannah Montana album or some Hannah Montana underpants from Wal-Mart I will have no problem with that.

Post a Commentall this is blown so riddiculously out of purportion, i think it is not trashty or sluty but simply artistic. Everyone is up in arms because of the more recent release of another disney stars naked photo so all these bad comments are in my mind stupid and hasty. The picture is artistic thats it.
So, I'm just curious. Would you allow (or encourage) your "13-, 12-, 10- and 8-year" olds to pose under a sheet for Annie Leibowitz? Whether she was wearing underwear or not, whether it was intended to be "artsy" or not, the fact is, it was meant to IMPLY she was naked under the sheet & I'm sorry, but 15 year old girls are too young to be photographed nude, partially nude, etc. for Vanity Fair. Bad enough, they already think it's cool to be a Porn Star & put 1/2 naked pics of themselves up on Myspace & Facebook (where are their parents?!), now they'll aspire to be "artsy" like Mylie. No, this isn't okay. No matter what color you try to paint it. I'm not a prude, I'm a 41 year old mother to a 2 year old daughter. I'm fully tattooed & definitely progressive in most aspects of my political leanings. Just not okay w/ the Fashion Industry, Film Industry, etc. sexualizing children. It has YUCKY written all over it.
Any girl her age should act just that. Pure trash she is and your dime supports her and daddy.
