Much More Halloween Costumes with Ideas for 2011

From the Vault!

Lori Lane
History can repeat itself this time around since the past offers some great money saving Halloween costumes and ideas with tips. From the years of 2008, 2009, and 2010 a string of Halloween costume ideas remained hidden beneath an electronic vault. Time to unleash three years of excellent Halloween costumes and ideas with new spontaneous tips. But first, a quick glance into the 2011 Halloween crystal ball.

2011 Halloween costume favorites may include Charlie Sheen post meat explosion, #57 Jacquian Williams and #34 Deon Grant of the New York Giants fake falling (as seen on Youtube.com), Demi Moore (Kutcher) and Ashton Kutcher in a Twitter fight (extra prop, computer for each), the now Mr. and Mrs. Gene Simmons, an angry Mother Earth with cracks on her body (go figure), the Sun Drop soda girl (if you're daring enough / Youtube), Big Time Rush music group, iCarly and/or Victorious characters, or anything related to social media (Facebook included).

Facebook Halloween Costumes

Let's count the Facebook Halloween costume ways. Write down Facebook messages and comments on white post-its with a thin black non-smudge marker then stick the post-its all over the body and clothes. Another includes dressing like Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg and portraying the Zuck. Oh, there's more!

Hold a poster with the words "God hates Facebook" or "Westboro hates Facebook." Jeans, t-shirt, jacket, and sneakers would do. In the past I've seen the Westboro Church group members in action - with kids - in the morning - picketing - outside on a cold rainy day - at the funeral of Elizabeth Edwards. The Westboro picketers dress down (not up) and hold signs while spontaneously shouting a sentence related to their message against their protest victim.

"Like" or "Comment" buttons - that's easy! Simply write the word "Like" or "Comment" down with a black marker on an index card then attach the card anywhere on your body and clothes. Just point at the card for costume verification. Remain creative.

Facebook junkies are no laughing matter. Across America, each passing day, a toddler is fed two extra bowls of store brand Cheerios, a kid goes to school with one different sock, a hungry cat meows from the other side of the front door, and a house is being attacked by rabid dust. Yes, it is the Facebook junkie.

Those reaching their Facebook fix smile and laugh even though no one else knows what they are laughing about. Therefore, this costume idea may be perfect for those who are actual Facebook junkies or those being forced to join a Halloween costume event. You may get lucky and avoid human contact all night. Why? Well, little Johnny, a Facebook junkie always asks to use someone's computer to sign in (remember to sign out) phasing out the world around them until they reach their Facebook fix - which may take longer for a hardcore user.

Halloween shopping tip #1! Most Halloween costume stores include the timely traditional stock of ideas with a selection of props. However, check the local consignment shops, second-hand stores, yard sales, clearance sales, department stores, and the internet (Ebay, Amazon, etc) for a less expensive Halloween experience. Also, check out craft store clearance bins for more prop options.

2008, 2009, 2010 Halloween Costumes & Ideas

The funny part about history is when you look back four years earlier and the same people are re-entering the spotlight. Yes, if you are daring enough you, too, can dress as Sarah Palin, John McCain, or President Barack Obama for Halloween. Simply read Cunning Halloween Costumes for more. The third page describes the "I'm Just A (bailout) Bill" Halloween costume idea. Even though the article was released in 2008 you can recycle the same characters during 2011 Halloween.

Who could forget the 2010 group of N.Y. candidates? DIY N.Y. Candidates Halloween Costumes can offer a fun replay to one of the most entertaining N.Y. debates on television whereas the phrase "the rent is too damn high" pushed Jimmy McMillan into the spotlight. Researching features of the candidates marks a good tool to use when deciding on who to portray during Halloween. This short and sweet guide gets you there!

Prop shed tip #1! Brew bowls make a nice witch prop. Fill a large (and we mean huge) brew bowl with candy after filling the bowl with crumbled up newspaper. The bowl can be any bowl. It is better to use a black, or a dark colored bowl. Do not use the white bowl with yellow smiley faces. It is Halloween. Check with your local Halloween store for fog devices designed to be placed on the bottom of a bowl or base.

In the last three years the set of Halloween costume ideas for kids involved cartoon characters and appropriate television show cast members. Slime! For instance all the kids know what the green slime means (Nickelodeon) so slime yourself with fake slime. Fake green slime can be found at some department and Halloween costume stores.

Halloween shopping tip #2! Cutting an old coat into a new cape is a great way to recycle. Use basic fabric glue and some glitter or decor to give the cape a fashion twist. If the cape is for Batgirl draw a bat outline with the glue (slightly squeeze the bottle as you draw the outline). Then sprinkle pink (or another color) glitter or decor on top of the glue (covering the glue). Allow to dry. Lightly pick up the cape allowing the excess glitter or decor to fall into an empty bowl. Retouch where needed.

Homemade Halloween Costumes for Teens shares how a teen can dress as Mr. Tyler (from the band Aerosmith and the show American Idol). But that's not all! Try Zack Efron, Jonas Brothers, and more. Saving the best for last. The last page shares Michael Jackson Halloween costume ideas. Jackson will always be a Halloween favorite for at least another decade. His production of Thriller (watch on Youtube) has some of the best costume designs (and dance moves). It may be easier think of using a recycled Jackson costume for 2011 Halloween. They are plenty.

Prop shed tip #2! Never leave out that closet search for items to use as props for the costume. An umbrella, a book, a hat, or even a specific jacket, are all worthy of being costume props. Toy guns, a guitar case, and a guitar can be used for the saucy character Antonio Banderas portrayed in the movie "Desperado." Caliente! An old pair of glasses can assist in a look. Props don't find themselves.

Over 70 Halloween Costumes may have faced a couple bridge issues but it definitely is worth the view. The bridge may have malfunctioned but the message is read clearly. There are a lot of costume ideas tucked inside of this piece. From couples costumes, fun costumes, (why so) serious costumes to group costumes, and etc. There's more, including the Joker!

Heath Ledger remains a favorite, always. There are a couple of characters he portrayed that never escapes this memory. Excellent works as a cast member of The Patriot, A Knight's Tale, and yes, The Dark Knight. Ledger's portrayal in any film will always be fantastic. So bring it! Watch Batman, once again, to view and observe what makes Heath's Joker character stand out then apply what you've learned to your costume. This research is rewarding. Batman with Heath as the Joker is highly entertaining. Visit the 2008 (4 pg) Joker costume with ideas piece.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Brad Pitt and Angelina Joli (once married would become the Pitts), can be found in the Brangelina department of 2008. Not a yawner by all means. From how to dress with tips, tricks to lips, Snag these ideas to form a great Brad Pitt and Angelina Joli Halloween costume duo babe.

Brad, Brad, Brad...cool hand Brad! You, too, can portray Brad Pitt by only wearing the most slick casual outfit inside of the closet. Simply walk with a "I concur, sure, whatever" attitude but with a respect to say whatever the other person wants to hear between compliments and cigars. Brag about adopting babies. Wearing a cap is not out of the question. Brad seems to wear less baseball hats these days and more caps. He's growing up so fast.

Prop shed tip #3! Do not use or create fake blood that stains clothes or skin. Make sure that the make-up used can be easily washed off. Outline cuts, or fake lacerations, lightly with a black eyeliner pencil. Squint eyes and pucker up lips before putting on make-up foundation and powder to give your face that aging wrinkled look.

The 2009 Heidi Klum Halloween Guide is all about Heidi, heels, and Halloween. Explore various Heidi Klum looks to apply to your costume or use any other time of the year. Heidi Klum is a five-star German model with multiple talents including fashion designer and television producer. But mainly Klum is known for her knockout looks. And remember, you can dress as anything or anyone you wish during Halloween. Even a hot German model.

Barbie and Ken, Ricky and Lucy, Dumb and Dumber, Kenny and Cartman (or any set of South Park characters), Abbott and Costello, Laurel and Hardy, Jack and Jill, an angel and a devil, a dog and a cat are good group costume suggestions. For an even larger group costume idea try MSNBC and/or CNN news anchors. If you combine the two have fun with rating wars and play it out!

Halloween shopping tip #3! Let the child pick out their costume (within reason). Do not allow a child to dress like Snooki (South Park version). But let them be creative too. Take them shopping for a costume or costume props. If you are creating their Halloween costume by scratch have them join in during the production of their costume. They will have fun assisting in the creation as well as Halloween shopping. The reward is quality time.

2011 Halloween is right around the bend and stops for no one! Prepare today to make the best of this October tradition. A little time and effort along the way can result in award (or contest) winning Halloween costumes.

Happy Halloween!
