Mud Volleyball - Good, Clean Summer Fun

What better way is there to spend a fun filled day with friends than playing a great sport that everyone can enjoy, and being covered in mud? Well, if that does not sound like your version of fun, then you really ought to think it through! One of the great things about summer is mud volleyball tournaments. Yes, you read right, mud volleyball! Picture people of all ages and physical conditions, gathered together in a huge field that has been worked up until it is about 12 inches deep with mud, with nets strung across makeshift "courts" and you have the makings for a fabulous fun filled day! However, this sport is definitely not for the faint of heart, as with any sport, playing in mud adds dimensions that most players would never even consider.

One of those dimensions is a complete loss of footing! During regular volleyball play on an indoor court, or a sand court, you can get stable footing. Proper foot placement for a hit is important, but usually not terribly difficult to accomplish. Now imagine trying to get your feet placed for a good solid hit in a couple of seconds in knee deep mud. The effects are tremendous! For the players this means adjusting their whole stance in a matter of seconds, when they can get absolutely no traction to do so. For the audience it means a good laugh as players struggle to adjust, slip, slide and inevitably at some point end flat on their back in the mud pit! So, if you can't stand the thought of coming off a volleyball court distinctly resembling some type of mud creature, mud volleyball is definitely not the sport for you. However, if you can imagine you and your friends or family getting dirty with the best of them, or even watching as everyone else does, keep reading for more of the perils of mud volleyball.

Another thing that makes playing mud volleyball, fun, funny and adds a level of difficulty never endured by most volleyball players is the loaded ball. Usually loading a ball intentionally with mud is off limits even in a mud volleyball game. However, when you are hitting a ball back and forth across a huge mud pit, it is inevitably going to get dirty! So, for anyone considering play, keep a towel on the sidelines preferably with someone not playing. For anyone watching, sit back and be ready, because when the ball gets hit the mud will fly literally! The clean towel on the sidelines for wiping mud from your eyes is going to prove priceless to the ones of you who plan to be in the game; after all it is hard to see a ball flying at you if your eyes are covered with mud!

Mud Volleyball, dare I say it is good clean summer fun! If you don't mind getting dirty, and enjoy a good game of volleyball check the events scheduled for your area. It is guaranteed to be a day you will never forget, and if you do not particularly care to play, but would enjoy being a spectator; cheerleaders are always a welcome addition to any team! While it is a fun and enjoyable way to spend a day, don't forget that other than humor playing in mud adds a lot of other things to the game, so be sure and be prepared for a true muddy day!
