Librarian Faith Brautigam, organizer of the event, says the library has several activities planned for the evening. Among them are a scavenger hunt, potions demonstrations, and a wand making station. There will also be an activity titled "Helping Hermione." Details as to the content of this activity are being kept under wraps, but readers of the Harry Potter series "may be able to figure out what kind of help Hermione might need," says Brautigam. Visitors may also sit in the audience to watch contestants compete in the Harry Potter Trivia Contest. The movie Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban will be running on a large screen television throughout the evening, and coupons for Honeydukes Sweet Shop will be available to those under age 21. Visitors will also want to enter the drawing to win a free copy of the newest Harry Potter book.
The activities portion of the evening will end at midnight. At 12:01, July 21, Barnes and Noble Booksellers will be on hand selling copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in the library's concession area. Sale price is $22.67 per copy, which reflects a 40% discount offered courtesy of Barnes and Noble. Cash and credit card are the only forms of payment accepted. It is strongly recommended that those planning to attend the event reserve their copy either by visiting the library and filling out a form at the Youth Services desk, or by calling the library at (847) 429-4685.
Although not a planned part of the evening, the library has learned that many patrons intend to arrive in costume.
All ages are welcome to attend Muggle Madness. Due to the late hour, all visitors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
