Muggles Hunt for Horcruxes in 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows'

Theories Muggles Have About the Locations of Voldermort's Horcruxes

Siun Griffin
The main focus of the final Harry Potter book, 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' will be the hunt for horcruxes. In this part of the muggle thought investigations, the theories of where the horcruxes are hidden will be looked at. This information is based on forum chatter at leakylounge.com.

Muggle theories on the locations of the horcruxes

Muggles have been avidly discussing their idea of where the remaining horcruxs are hidden. So far J.K. Rowling has indicated that Voldermort hid his horcruxes in places of some significance to him such as the cave and diary.

Riddle House

Many muggles think the Voldermort may of hidden a horcrux in the Riddle House. The reason for this belief is that this is the location of Voldermort's first murder; the time when he killed his father and grandparents and possibly the location of where he made his first horcrux. However not all muggles think that the Riddle House is a possible location as Voldermort has a great hatred for his muggle family and thus would not want to hide something as valuable as a piece of his soul in that house.

Borgin & Burkes

Borgin & Burkes is a dark wizarding shop that is located in Knockturn Alley. The shop specilises in dark and valuable magical objects, making it an ideal place to find suitable horcrux objects. After leaving Hogwarts Tom Riddle as he still publicly called himself went to work at Borgin & Burkes. It is possible that he was able to access and secure an object in this shop for one of his horcruxs according to muggle thought.

Orphanage

The orphanage is the only home Tom Riddle knew until he found out he was a wizard and went to Hogwarts. Like Harry, Tom Riddle became very attached to Hogwarts but was unable to stay there outside of the school year. Tom Riddle was born at the orphanage and it is the place where his mother died. It was at the orphanage that Tom Riddle's beliefs that he was special were confirmed one night by a visit from Dumbledore to tell him he was a wizard.

With the Giants

Voldermort has managed to get the giants on his side. They are hiding away in the mountains away from everyone else as they are not accepted by the majority of the wizarding community. Because of their remote location and loyalty to Voldermort there is some possibly that a horcrux could be hidden amongst the giants according to some theories put forth by muggles.

Hogwarts

The possibility of a horcrux being located in Hogwarts is one of the most discussed theories amongst muggles. Voldermort was obsessed with Hogwarts and its founders. From previous information given in the books it seems that Voldermort was in search of a possession once owned by each of the school's founders and that these were very important to him. It has already been seen that the locket of Slytherin was used to hide one horcrux. Voldermort was very keen on getting a teaching job at Hogwarts, perhaps to find what he needed for a horcrux. However, some muggles feel that the strong protection Dumbledore put over Hogwarts prevented Voldermort from gaining the access he would need to hide a horcrux there.

Azkaban

The wizarding prison of Azkaban would provide an interesting place to hide something that you didn't want found say muggles. Wizards avoided Azkaban unless they absolutely had to go there and the prison was well protected by the Dementors who Voldermort has managed to get on his side.

Godrics Hollow

Godrics Hollow and its significance is greatly discussed amongst muggles theorising about the final Harry Potter book. This is the location where Harry's parents were hiding and killed. It is also the location where Voldermort failed to kill Harry and lost all of his power. Voldermort rarely did any killing himself and when he did they were usually of significance. It is highly likely that Voldermort planed to make his final horcrux on the night he visited the Potter's house. Since we do not fully know how horcruxes are made it is possible that Godrics Hollow is the location of a hidden horcrux. Muggles already know that Harry intends to visit Godrics Hallow early in the final book.

Durmstrang

Some muggles believe that Durmstrang, a far off wizarding school, could be the location of a horcrux. Durmstrang was known for its ties to the dark arts making it appealing to Voldermort. Muggles also know that Voldermort spent a lot of time travelling, when no one had heard of where he was making it possible he spent some time at Durmstrang.

Gringotts

The wizarding bank is always mentioned in the Harry Potter books and a very secure location to hide something. Muggles were told in the very first book that besides Hogwarts it is the safest place to hide something. The UK cover art shows an image of what looks like it could be a Gringotts vault.

Horcruxes are one of the hottest topics currently being discussed by muggles and they are sure to be one of the hottest post release subjects as well.
