Multiplayer Momentum Review

A Competitive Quiz Race Game

Timothy Liu
Multiplayer Momentum is a flash animation quiz game submitted to Newgrounds.com by Newgrounds.com user pedro lopez (CaesarsQuiz). The game was submitted on February 26, 2007 and won a Daily Feature award on February 27, 2007. This multiplayer version of the game features a multiplayer option that allows players to compete online with real opponents instead of computer players.

Gameplay

The goal of the game is cross the finish line first. The race begins once there are 6 players in the game. Your speed will depend on how many questions you answer correctly. Questions will appear at the top of the screen, with answer choices appearing below that. After you have read the question, select an answer and click Validate to submit your answer. If you are correct, you will gain a certain number of points in speed. If you are incorrect, you will fall and lose major ground. The amount of speed you have is indicated by a vertical bar on the far right of the screen. The middle of the screen shows a visual representation of how you are doing compared to other players.

If you do not know the answer to a question and don't want to guess, you can Skip the question. You will not be penalized, but you will lose that opportunity to gain speed points that your opponents may have obtained.

The multiplayer feature that is included in this game includes a chatbox at the bottom of the screen that can be used to taunt other players or have a quick chat.

The questions in both versions are scattered in therms of categories. There are questions about history, chemistry, physics, geography, pop culture, and others.

There is a buffer time between questions. When you Validate or Skip a question, there is a certain period of time that you have to wait before the next question will appear. Answering quickly will maximize the number of questions that you can answer. When someone is near the end of the finish line, or if the questions start to run out, you will no longer be able to answer any questions.

According to the game's author, Multiplayer Momentum has quiz questions that are simpler than its predecessor. There is also an Hourly challenge that players can participate in to place in the hourly leader board.

Review

Multiplayer Momentum is great for people who enjoy quiz games. However, because this is essentially only a quiz game, hardcore gamers will probably not find it very enjoyable. There isn't much else going on other than answering questions. The visual race is not very exciting, and the speed at which you are shown questions is rather slow, since there is a buffering time between questions. A more rapid fire questioning system may make the game more interesting. Also, having the graphical race, which takes up most of the screen, be a little more interesting to watch would make the buffer time between questions less uninteresting.

Multiplayer Momentum scores a 5/10. It is just entertaining enough to be considered a playable game. However, it doesn't have much else to offer other than trivia questions.
