I am a mom of a 2 year old boy but am thinking about having another baby. Our first child was conceived through the process of InvitroFertilization so there is always a chance that I might end up pregnant with multiples. So for me reading this magazine was informative and helpful. I learned a lot about what I should expect just in case we have a multiple birth.
First I found the article titled "His Experience With Infertility" written by an expecting father in the Daddy's Diary of the magazine interesting. Since I am the women it is hard to tell what my husband is thinking. He is not one to share all of his feeling's so openly so reading this article about what this expecting Dad went through helped me to understand what my husband might have felt. He goes on to talk about seeing a ton of different doctors and watching his wife go through a ton of tests. He talks about the ups and downs of the infertility process. He shares his pain while watching his wife have to endure shot after shot in certain areas of her body that aren't so pleasant. He continues to talk about how he is mixed with joy and nervousness once finding out they were expecting multiples. To me all of these feelings are normal. It definitely will help expecting fathers of multiples feel that they are not alone.
One article in the magazine's section called "From the Heart" talks about a woman's experience with the "Baby Blues". Again to me this is a common feeling that probably most mom's feel but are afraid to talk about. When I had my son I know that I felt exactly what this woman was talking about. If I had read her article before giving birth I wouldn't have felt so scared and would have shared my feelings with my husband. I was too embarrassed to tell anyone about my baby blues.
In the "Ask Dr. Julie" section of the magazine the author gives her audience an explanation of "What is Flat Head Syndrome." What a scary thing. But after reading this article I understand it more clearly. The author talks about using tummy time, alternating head positions, changing positions while feeding, stretches while changing the baby and helmet therapy. She also includes the signs of flat head syndrome. This will help you determine if you child has this condition and where to go for help.
Another section that I enjoyed reading and learned from was the"Healthy Living" section of the magazine. In this article titled "mealtime Magic", the author gives new parents tips on how to "sneak" healthy food into your child's diet. Some of her tips include going halfsies. For example she says to combine a regular box of spaghetti with a box of whole wheat spaghetti. I never even thought to do that, what a great idea. I know that I give my son half apple juice and the other water in his sippy cup. He has yet to notice a difference, She also tells you to use turkey meat instead of high fat ground beef. I should do that for myself. Instead of putting a ton of sugar in something you are booking, limit the amount you put in. Your child will not know the difference.
The article that I did learn the most from was the section called "What to Expect." The author talks about "Life in the NICU". This stands for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Fortunately my son did not have to go to the NICU. He weighed 7 pounds and 11 ounces at birth. But sometimes with a multiple birth the babies will have to spend a few days or even a few weeks in the NICU to develop their lungs. Sometimes when a baby is born premature they will have to spend time in the NICU. What a scary experience for both baby and parent. This article gives you an understanding of what to expect if your child has to spend time i the NICU. The author goes on to tell you about the restrictions and how your baby will be treated for.
Overall I highly recommend this Multiples Magazines to any parent, singleton or multiples expecting. You can get a subscription for a full year for $5. You can visit the magazine's website at www.muliplesmag.com. The website is user friendly too.
