The primer and mascara are part of a step program. The first step is an enhancer formula that you apply to your lashes at night, but really this is not necessary. For your everyday needs, you first apply the primer. I would recommend applying 1-2 coats of the primer and letting it set dry before applying the mascara. You can tell if you applied sufficient amount of primer by looking at your lashes at a side angle and seeing if the primer has "extended" from your natural lash length. Once dried, apply 2-3 coats for mascara. You can use your wrist to roll the mascara wand upward to get a more curled look.
This works just as well or even better than more current drugstore brand mascara. The added benefit is that this made from natural ingredients. So I feel a little more ease it ends up in my eyes when I am cleansing my face. The manufacturers claims that these products are "formulated without: parabens, perto-chemicals, phthalates, sulfates, fragrances, gluten, dye, talc, and GMOs".
The only downside is the price of these. The mascara retails for $24 for a 0.31 fl oz tube, and the primer retails fro $22 for a 0.32 fl oz tube. The good thing is that the online store usually has sales and offer and last time I managed to score these for 50% off with free shipping. Tarte Cosmetics products are sold on their online store and select beauty specialty stores such as Sephora.
Would I recommend these? I most definitely will. Would I purchase these again? Yes, just not for the full price. It's not at all because of the quality, but for the fact that I know that I can get them at a cheaper price if I just wait for sales, which occur often.
