Multi-Task Your Way to Fitness

There really are some people who like to exercise. We all know those mutant creatures who actually like to sweat. But honestly I can't think of a single thing I like about exercising. Whenever I think about working out I just lie down til the feeling passes.

Theoretically exercising only makes your muscles bigger. So based on that thery won't ab exercises create a bigger stomach? And what about burning fat? Now they tell you that if you want to decrease fat you need to eat olive oil and fish oil. It's all just tooooo confusing.

But seriously, we all know that in order to be fit and healthy you need to maintain a healthy diet and exercise program. But this doesn't mean you have to run out and join a gym. It doesn't mean that you have to hire a trainer or spend a lot of money on expensive equipment or supplements. There is a sensible and easy way to achieve your fitness goals in the privacy of your own home and on your own time, and all without a huge time commitment.

But of course, just like anything else that you want you do actually have to put forth some effort. The key to this program is that you need to be very consistent and persistent in your efforts and develop some very good habits that you can easily fit into your daily life and before you know if you'll be reaping the benefits of these tiny but effective habits.

Life is busy and hectic and sometimes it's hard to fit a workout into your schedule. But with a little planning and discipline you can fit it in in little bites and you'll barely even notice that you're doing it.

For complete fitness you need to do 2 different types of exercise:

Aerobic and Anaerobic. Aerobic comes from the word air and this means that you're working at such a level to raise your heartrate and breathe deeply through your lungs. This is the type of exercise that burns the fat and keeps your heart healthy. Anaerobic is muscle building and usually involves repetitions with weights or some type of resistance. Studies have shown that small bursts of aerobic exercise such as 10 minutes 2-3 times a day can be just as effective, or more than a longer period of 20-30 minutes at a time. So you can take a brisk walk or run a few times per day or if you prefer you can walk/run for 20-30 minutes 3 times a week. You can actually make this even more effective and fat burning if you speed up a few times during these walks.

Aerobic exercise is generally the biggest challenge for me since I really hate it. So for me I try to multi-task and make sure I'm doing more than just my exercise. At least 4-6 times per week I take my dog for a brisk walk (first thing out of bed in the morning - or I make excuses later) But I'm not just walking my dog. I found the most amazing shoes that work your legs and butt and actually fight cellulite. They're called

MBT Shoes. and they are amazing. Your legs will really be burning the first few times you wear them, but you'll love what they do for you.

OK, so now every morning I'm accomplishing 5 things:

* Walking my dog

* Getting aerobic workout

* Building leg(and butt)muscles

* Fighting Cellulite

* Listening to an audiobook on my Ipod

Anaerobic exercise is easier to accomplish but you have to develop habits of doing little bits here and there. You can do squats while you're in the kitchen waiting in front of the microwave. Use handweights to add resistance. You can do ballet barre leg exercises right there at the sink. Try to do some ab work in front of the tv. Keep handweights (dumbells, kettlebells, ankle weights etc.) nearby, maybe under a table or in a corner where there's no excuse not to pick them up. You can do bicep and tricep curls and lat work in a few minutes. You can hang a resistance tubing exerciser to a doorknob. Leave it there and every time you pass it you can stop for a minute and JUST USE IT! You can do this at home or at work.

There are tons of places to find workout plans and different exercises you can do. Almost every magazine you pick up has a little workout in it. Just be creative and start doing it. No more excuses! Do it a little at at time and the little athlete inside you will begin to emerge. You'll look better, feel better, sleep better, and most of all be healthier in no time.
