Munchkin Insulated Straw Cups: Leakproof, but Not Without Problems

Emily Harmon
Now that my son is three years old he has graduated from typical sippy cups and is now using regular cups at mealtimes and straw cups for snacks and drinking throughout the day. When purchasing straw cups to replace his sippy cups I looked to Munchkin Insulated Straw Cups. I have many Munchkin products in my home and have been generally satisfied with their performance. Unfortunately, the Munchkin 10 oz. Straw Cups have not lived up to my expectations.

Munchkin Insulated Straw Cups are purchased in the feeding section of the baby section of most larger retailers. Munchkin Insulated Straw Cups come in many fun bright colors that my son loves, and they are reasonably priced at just over $5 each.

There are some great positives about Munchkin Insulated Straw Cups. First of all, they are very leak proof. Even if my son leaves his Munchkin Insulated Straw Cup on its side, I have rarely seen one leak. This is even better than many of the sippy cups I have owned. The insulation in Munchkin Insulated Straw Cups is great for keeping my son's milk cool while he plays. Munchkin Insulated Straw Cups come apart easily, and into several parts, so cleaning them thoroughly is achievable. Munchkin Insulated Straw Cups have a closable lid which makes them completely leak proof and keeps contaminants out of the beverage. Finally, Munchkin Insulated Straw Cups are top rack dishwasher safe which is a lifesaver for this busy working mom.

Unfortunately there are also some important cons to Munchkin Insulated Straw Cups. First of all the cups are almost impossible to reassemble after they have been disassembled for washing. The straws are very difficult to reinsert into the straw hole and I have spent many a frustration morning attempting to insert them so my son could have his milk. Another problem I have found with my Munchkin Insulated Straw Cups is condensation between the insulated layers. All of my Munchkin Insulated Straw Cups have some condensation and one of my cups has terrible condensation between these two sections of the cup.

Overall, Munchkin Insulated Straw Cups aren't a bad purchase, however, I do think there are probably better straw cups on the market. The fun colors and leak-proof construction of Munchkin Insulated Straw Cups is excellent, but the impossible assembly and condensation problems make this an item I do not think I would purchase again.

Do you know that the flip lever part comes off too? It should be very easy for you to put the straws back in...I thought they were horribly hard until my husband pointed this out to me! I can't really describe it here well but...ask around, they are popular cups and someone should be able to show you how to work them more easily. Sorry, no help for the condensation problem :(

Great review. I like it when problems are pointed out so that buyer knows what could go wrong.

Nice honest review. You would think in ~ what ~ the 10 years or so that straw cups have been on the market, someone would have designed something foolproof.
