Munro Shoes Aim for Perfect Fit

Munro shoes are a brand of women's footwear that are made in Arkansas, making them one of the few companies that still produce shoes in the United States. Munro & Co. is a family owned business started in 1972 but the current woman's shoe company known as Munro American was developed in 1984.

The motto for Munro shoes is "Proper Size, Perfect Fit". What sets Munro apart from the competition is the way they fit. Munro shoes come in a variety of widths, slim (4A), narrow (2A), medium (B), wide (D) and double-wide (2E). Depending on the width, Munro styles start as small as size 4 and come in every full and half size up to size 14 for a total of 75 different size combinations.

Aside from the large amount of size options, Munro shoes are each marked with a last number. A last is the plastic mold that a shoe is made on and different styles can be made on different lasts. Munro marks each style with the last number so that if a style fits well, it would be easy to find another style that was made on the same last. Two different styles that are made on the same last should fit identically.

The Munro shoes also come with removable insoles that allow orthodics to fit in the shoes, which is a rare feature in dress shoes. Most styles also come with a steel shank for support and stability as well as a latex rubber sole that allows flexibility, has shock absorption and is slip resistant. Some styles of Munro also come with a "Dri-lex" lining that allows the shoe to breath and controls moisture.

As well as making many sizes, Munro makes a variety of styles. They range from shoes, mules, boots, sandals, dress shoes and casual lace-ups. Some are made with leather or suede and others are made with stretch fabric. Heels sizes on Munros range from 5/8's of an inch to 1 and ½ inches.

Munro styles are also easy to keep looking good. While the leather styles can be polished and the suedes can be brushed, the popular micro fiber fabrics can be wiped with a damp cloth.

Shoes by Munro can range in price from $134 to $199. Their website features a link on where to buy Munros and also allows searches of current styles. The company also has good return policies for stores so it's more likely that a store would be willing and able to special order current styles and sizes of Munros. Munros are sold at Nordstroms department stores as well as other independent, high-quality shoe stores.
