Bruce Morgan, De Carlo's son, said she died of natural causes.
She was born in Vancouver, British Columbia on September 1, 1922 as Peggy Yvonne Middleton. Her first appearance in a Hollywood film was in 1941 but her career break was in the 1945 film, "Salome, Where She Danced." She performed opposite Burt Lancaster in the 1949 film "Criss Cross." De Carlo was the leading female opposite Clark Gable in the 1957 film "Band of Angels." She received accolades for her performance for the leading role (Moses' wife named Zipporah) in the 1956 film "The Ten Commandments."
She also appeared on Broadway's "Follies" in 1971. Despite her acting accomplishments, she is best remembered as the comedic vampire mom on the cult series "The Munsters." The show only ran two seasons (1964 - 1966) and lives on in syndication around the globe.
De Carlo has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contributions to both the motion picture and the television industries.
She was married to Robert Morgan, a stuntman between 1955 and 1968.

Post a CommentOkay so I am seriously slow in catching up on news. I hadn't realized she had died. Nice overview- I agree with Amy F- the Munsters felt like a forever part of childhood, shocked by the 2 seasons only revelation.
I still watch the Munsters on reruns, she was so awesome in the role of Lily Munster, she played it perfectly. Probably the sexiest ghoulie around; but never trashy ... always classy. RIP Lily & Yvonne.
I don't know how I didn't hear about this until now. I grew up watching the Munsters how sad :(

I have an autographed photo of her in her 'Munsters' character makeup/costume.
It WAS sad to hear of her passing. I never watched the Munsters but I have seen her in a few old movies. She was very pretty in her heyday!
That's sad news. Some folks used to call me "Eddie Munster" because I have a widow's peak if I let my hair grow a bit.
Nice article.
She was fantastic. I was so sad to hear. Nicely written and informative.
I never realized the Munsters only ran two seasons. I wonder how many times I've seen each episode rerun, then. :) Sad news.
