In early 2004, the Walt Disney Company purchased Jim Henson Productions because of the fact that they realized that the long-standing franchise could add a lot to the company. They are finally going to try to use that purchase to it's full potential.
Disney is currently working on short movies that will feature the Muppets. These movies will be shown on the Disney Channel and will have appearances by some of the most popular Disney characters. The first of these movies could come as early as August.
There will also be appearances of characters from the Muppets that will appear on many of the shows that Disney produces on a regular basis. This attempt at brand crossover will be to make sure that the Muppets have a lot of exposure in the next few years on the Disney Channel.
There is another goal other then just making the Muppets popular to a new generation. Disney is also hoping that many of the older fans of the Muppets will start tuning into the Disney Channel for the nostalgic feeling that seeing the Muppets in new shows might give.
The Muppets have been one of the most successful franchises in all of children's television. There are many older fans that still go out of their way to see Kermit and the gang so that they can feel the joy and have the laughter that they did when they were younger.
With the recent success of the adds that Kermit has done for the Ford Motor company, Disney has realized that the Muppets still hold a lot of weight in the industry. We are likely to see a lot of Muppet merchandise come out in the next few years as Disney tries to make the Muppets into as much of a cash cow as possible.
There are some, though, that have posted that they are not interested in seeing the Muppets along with the established Disney characters. There were a lot of people that were upset when Disney first purchased the franchise. Disney hopes that they can win these people over in the next few years.
There are many, though, that believe that this is a major step forward for the Muppets. These people are eagerly waiting for the first shows to come out on the Disney Channel.

Post a CommentGreat article!! I just hope these short movies are better than the last movie, Kermit's Swamp Years. Boy did that one stink. I hope they can make more classics similar to The Muppet Christmas Carol.
This is great news! I love the Muppets too! I knew nothing about this, thanks!
Awesome! I love the Muppets! Maybe The Disney Channel will once again become something worth watching.
