Murder Mystery Party Invitation Ideas

A Murder Mystery Party is great party, any time of year. The Murder Mystery theme easily lends itself to so many possibilities for costumes, decorations and food, but if you really want to get your guests dying to attend, why not get the suspense building weeks ahead? The best way to do that is with killer invitations.

Any fan of mystery books or suspense movies is familiar with the concept of the anonymous threatening note. Back when type face or handwriting could give the killer away, magazine cut-out lettering was not only creepy, it was essential for keeping his or her identity a secret. What better way to get your party guests into the spooky spirit of a murder mystery than invitations hand-lettered with cut-outs? Thankfully, having a computer means you don't have to pour through magazines (though you still can if you want). You just need blank invite cards, letter-sized paper or postcards, scissors, a source for letters (computer print-out or magazines), and some glue to make unique invitations that virtually guarantee an RSVP of yes. Have fun with wording "Be at this address at noon on the 24th", just make sure the invites are clear about there being a party - you want your guests to call on you, not the police!

Obviously, a murder mystery wouldn't be complete without a weapon. Invitations in the shape of a gun or with a gun border are the perfect, fun way to say "Come to my party, or else!" You'll need envelopes, sheets of white card stock, and a printer. Find a picture online of the pistol or handgun that you would like to use. Print it on the bottom of each of the sheets of cardstock. Fold the paper so that the top of the gun in on the crease. Cut out the gun shape through the double thickness of paper.

When you think of the classic murder mystery, it's difficult to ignore the Hasbro game Clue. Why not invitations edged in black, with a miniature Clue game piece (the rope, the lead pipe, etc) tucked in the envelope or glued to the invite itself? The best part about this idea is that you can do it with any generic party invitation - they won't have to have the murder mystery theme because you are providing it. And that's good because finding a store that offers invites with a Murder Mystery Theme can be murder.
