Murderabilia: Memorabilia Auctions of Items Once Belonging to Murderers

Auction Offers Murderabilia for Sale

Dee
We've all heard of eBay, the online auction. But there is another auction online, one in which the items up for bid are artwork, envelopes, letters, autographs and more of famous people. But these famous people are murderers, serial killers, and other incarcerated people. This auction is called "Murderauction.com".

There are 19 different categories, including Artwork, Books, Collector Cards, Crafts, Games, Magazines, Chuck Hodi Artwork, Action Figures, Clothing, Comics, DVD's, Greeting Cards, Photographs, Autographs, Collectibles, Compact Discs, Envelopes, Letters, and VHS's.

People can put want ads on this site when they are looking for a specific item. User "nrs28495" has an ad, "I am after Richard Speck items, letters with envelopes, drawings and paintings. Must be in good condition. I will pay up to $300 for letters with envelopes, up to $500 for drawings and up to $1200 for oil paintings on canvas." Another ad was placed by someone wanting any memorabilia from Scott Peterson.

In the art section there are several items by Alfred Gaynor. With a starting bid of $750.00, you can bid on an original Charles Manson 6x9 drawing from 1990, signed "Charles Mac Manson". There are several art pieces being offered.

For an opening bid of $50.00 you can purchase an autograph post card by mass killer Howard Unruh who was found insane of a mass shooting spree in 1949. Other autographed pieces include Gaynor, Charles Manson, and Richard Rameriz. Also up for sale is a pair of sneakers worn by Alfred Gaynor that he wore for about two years while doing life at Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley, MA. They are signed Alfred Gaynor on the left shoe. They will also come with a hand printed certificate of authenticity signed by Alfred Gaynor.

There has been controversy on the subject of inmate memorabilia. Andy Kahan who is Director of the Crime Victims Assistance of the Mayor's Office of Houston and leading voice against murderabilia has voiced his opinion about murderabilia, and feels that no money should be earned by murderers, and has worked to get "murderabilia removed from eBay. Kahan is one of the writers for crime blog, "In Cold" http://incoldblogger.blogspot.com/

Five states have banned such items from being sold, Texas, California, New Jersey, Michigan and Utah.

Ebad would be a good name for this type of auction.

I'm not sure why people would want this stuff. To me, an envelope that belonged to someone as scummy as a murderer wouldn't be worth a penny....why would I want to own property that once belonged to a despicable human being? Well-written and certainly interesting article, though!

Very interesting. I think that it says alot about our society for people to be glorifying such monstrous people. Great job :-)

Just goes to show what our society values, just like the salaries made by our sports heroes do. Frightening.
