Murderer's Last Meal Inspires Charitable Acts

Murderer's Last Meal Inspires Charity.

53 year old Phillip Workman may have inadvertently started a charity with his 'last meal request'. The man who was serving time on death row in Nashville, Tennessee, asked that instead of having a meal for himself, a pizza be sent out to a homeless man. Jail workers would not send out a pizza (a pizza would most likely surpass the 20 dollar limit that a last meal is to cost) and Workman's death sentence was carried out on Wednesday May 9th, 2007 by lethal injection.

When news of Workman's request broke out into the public, people started taking it into their own hands to carry out Workman's final wishes. Quickly after the story broke the Union Rescue Mission in Nashville received an order of 170 pizzas. Apparently Workman's story reached as far as Minnesota, because an organization for troubled youth also reported receiving pizzas in relation to Workman's story.

Workman was actually sentenced on a count of killing a police officer.

I heard about this. I wonder if he was sorry for his crime though?

Interesting article and worthwhile to see that a convicted criminal would make his last move a good one.
