Murderers Running Free Shoplifters Put Behind Bars

Does This Sound Fair to You

Is our judicial system not just wonderful in this country? Just this past Sunday an accused murder who was out on bond shot and killed another person in a Shoney's Parking Lot in Knoxville Tennessee. Now that is justice huh?

So what is happening to this country? Sure, innocent until proven guilty is what our judicial system is supposed to be. Well, it seems like now it is proven guilty, slap them on the wrist with a wet noodle, and set them out to kill again. Why not? Just in the past two years two people in the state of Tennessee have shot and killed (one was really premeditated murder) another person in cold blood. Well, guess what, both of these people got only about a month or a little more behind bars. One person even got only a few days behind bars and then was sent to a mental institution from which she was release in just a couple of weeks. Wow, that is our judicial system at work. The other murder (although they did not charge him with that but that is what most people think it was) happened when one person called another to his house because he had been having an affair with his wife. The person got into the wife's boyfriend's truck and had a gun. Now if that is not premeditated murder then what is it? Oh, and he got charged with just reckless homicide. Another wow!

However, a lot of this is to blame on our already over-crowded jail systems. But you see, the way I look at it is the fact that they have people in jail for swindling money and murderers are walking the streets. Hum, makes one think huh. I believe I would feel a little safer if someone sitting next to me had just stolen a few thousand dollars than to have just stabbed, shot, you know killed, someone in cold blood. How about you?

There are actually still jail systems (at least in Tennessee) that are so over-crowded that they put the really "bad" (first degree murderers et cetera) ones in with the shoplifters and D.U.I. offenders. Sounds pretty fair to me since those darn shoplifters stole that $10.00 tee-shirt instead of stealing someone's life. Darn shoplifters. Now if they would have shot someone while they were stealing, they would be getting out of jail with their slap on the wrist.

Our poor police officers have the worst jobs in the world. They put all their efforts and time into catching the hardened criminals just for a jury or judge to say, "Ah, just let him go as long as he promises not to do it again. Now you do promise, [Mr. Manson], that you will not kill another person, right?" Sure, and the guy who was on bond for murder also promised to not do it again; but a person lost his life to him.

I am not sure what you think, and this is my opinion only. But I think people should take a good look at what is happening to our so-called judicial system. It is hard to feel safe anymore. In fact, people are not even safe in their own home.

Just this past weekend a man was shot and died a couple of days later when intruders shot him in his own home. And guess what they got away with, a safe full of Presidential quarters that the wife said may have been worth about $50.00 if that. Yet, this homeowner gave his life for $50.00. And how much do you want to bet that the intruders will have a previous history of robbery or murder or other violent crimes.

So, now that you know my opinion of the judicial system in our country...what is your opinion of it?

Lori: I agree with your opinions. Things are really messed up with the judicial system...

Justice in most countries is terrible. In Britain people who steal are often treated as harshly as murderers. Sadly, I think it's often down to how good your lawyer is.

Very well written. There is for sure something wrong with our judicial system but who is going to change it? Thanks for writing such an important subject.
