Museo Nacional Del Prado in Madrid Spain Has the Best Spanish Art and One of the Best European Collections
The Museo Nacional del Prado is located at 23 Calle Ruiz, Madrid Spain. The bulk of the Museo Nacional del Prado large collection comes from the collection of the Spanish royal family. The majority of this collection has been built up over centuries. The collection is so large that only about a third of the entire collection is on display at any one time. While this is a drawback because you are missing more then you are seeing this allows the museum plenty of time for restoration work on the other pieces. A recent limited time display of Durers Adam and Eve will be on display thanks to the ample restoration time it received.
While Spanish art from the 12th-19th century is the bulk of the work of the museum and Spanish art of later vintage once resided here but it was decided for space to send them to other Spanish art museums. However the Museo Nacional del Prado houses all kinds of art from all places and times. It is not well rounded but because it is so big it can get away with having a small percent of paintings and other pieces that are not Spanish and still have an impressive collection of other work.
Besides the large collection of Spanish art the Museo Nacional del Prado also has one of the largest collections of European art in the world. Besides paintings the Museo Nacional del Prado has literally thousands of coins, sculptures, medals, drawings, prints, and decorative objects.
The one thing that the Museo Nacional del Prado is lacking is anything from outside of Europe. The Museo Nacional del Prado is by far the best art museum for Spanish art and one of the best for European art but it fails to have anything beyond Europe.
If you love art then you will love the Museo Nacional del Prado. The Museo Nacional del Prado is a top sight to see if you are in Spain.
