Museums in the Dallas Area Worth Seeing

A Dallas location that has become synonymous with infamy is Dealy Plaza. It was at this location on a cool November afternoon in 1963 that President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was shot as his motorcade passed the Texas Schoolbook Depository Building. That building now houses The Sixth Floor Museum. Opening on Presidents Day 1989, the museum housed on the sixth and seventh floor of the building exhibits artifacts and documents pertaining to the Kennedy assassination, and the legacy of the 35^th President of the United States. The Women' Museum

Located in the Fair Park area, The Women's Museum, an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institute, houses a collection of historical exhibits pertaining to women's history. Dallas Holocaust Museum? Center for Education and Tolerance

The name implies that this museum is all about the holocaust of WWII. While you can find information about the genocide of the Jews, there are workshops and seminars about the holocaust. Dallas Museum of Nature and Science

Located near Victory Park, The Dallas Museum of Nature and Science is actually the result of a merger in 2006 of The Dallas Museum of Natural History, The Science Place and The Children's Museum. The resulting facility has specimens of entomology, paleontology, and other sciences, covering approximately 1.7 billion years of evolution on Planet Earth. The facility offers special exhibits and even includes an IMAX ® Theater. Open 10am to 5pm Monday through Saturday - Noon to 5pm Sunday. African American Museum

The African American Museum chronicles the history and role of black Americans in Texas throughout history. From slavery to freedom, through the Civil Rights era to the first African American President of the United States.(While Barack Obama is not from Texas he did get votes from Texas) Currently there is a George Washington Carver summer workshop available. Permanent exhibits include, Freedman's Cemetery, Black Texas Hall of Fame, and Dallas Black Teachers Hall of Fame. Frontiers of Flight Museum

Dallas is known as the Aviation capitol of the World, according to the museums' website. Here you will find artifacts related to the world of aviation. From the radioman's chair from the Hindenburg, to a WWI Sopwith Pup biplane, there are plenty of exhibits to keep the flight fanatics happy.
