Children's Museum of Indianapolis
The Children's Museum of Indianapolis is a perfect place to bring your child during your vacation in Indianapolis, as it combines the excitement of learning with hands-on exhibits and activities that are great for kids of all ages. The Museum is home to a number of exhibits, including the Natural World Domain (which educates children about various science concepts of the physical world,) the Cultural World Domain, and the American Experience Domain. This museum is a must-see attraction for anyone who wants to see their child enjoy the world of learning.
Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art
If you're interested in the world of art and in the vanished world of Native Americans, then the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art is the ideal stop for you. This museum is home to an extensive collection, including the American Western Gallery, which contains a number of paintings, sculptures, and drawings that portray artistic renderings of the American West, while the Native American Collection contains a number of artifacts and art from the various regions of North America, although the collections are especially good in terms of the Plains and the Southwest, with objects from almost all of the tribal groups in those areas.
Indianapolis Museum of Art
Nothing beats an afternoon strolling through the hallowed halls of an art museum, and the Indianapolis Museum of Art is one of the finest in the country. The extensive permanent collections in the museum are divided into several thematic areas, including African Art, American Painting and Sculpture to 1945, Ancient Art of the Mediterranean, Ancient Art of the Americas. After taking a deep plunge into the art world, feel free to journey outside into the almost palatial grounds of the Indiana Museum of Art, which include a 26-acre estate and the 100-acre Virginia B. Fairbanks Art and Nature Park.
Indiana State Museum
No trip to Indianapolis would be complete without a visit to the Indiana State Museum, which is home to a number of both permanent and rotating exhibitions. The permanent exhibitions include Ancient Seas, Crossroads of America, Global Indiana, the Native Americans, and the Nineteenth State, all of which detail the important role that Indiana has played in both the United States and in the world. Rotating exhibits have included "Footprints: Balancing Nature's Diversity" and "Heartland Art: Selections from Your Indiana Collection."
