Music for Your Baby

Kevin Nurmi
Every baby is very unique and different. However, many babies enjoy a lot of the same things. One of those things is music. Nearly every baby enjoys some sort of music. You may have seen some videos or CD's for babies advertised on the television or in stores. Many of those CD's contain classical music because it is said to stimulate your baby's brain and help it develop better. By playing music for you baby you are introducing them to all sorts of new sounds.

You may notice that playing music for your baby will help calm her down. It is a great idea to play music around bedtime, because it can help relax her and put her in great state ready to go to sleep. Playing music can also create a type of background noise that will stop other noises outside her room from waking her up. Most of the time you will only need to play the music for no more then an hour before baby is soundly asleep.

Your baby will enjoy almost any type of music. However, just as certain songs provoke feelings or emotions in us, they will also do the same for your baby. You do not want to play a loud, happy song for your baby if you are trying to get her to fall asleep. Likewise, playing a slow, quiet song will not stimulate baby for play time very well. If you are interested in the classical music for your baby, Mozart or Bach both offer good play time and bedtime music. Anything you find soothing and relaxing is also probably going to relax your baby, so if you like country or soft rock, you can play those for your baby instead.

If you baby does not react as well as you would like to the music, you can also try what is called white noise. You can put a fan or a sound machine in your baby's room to play ocean noises or rain for your baby to fall asleep with. These sounds can be very soothing and block out other, distracting noises from your babies ears. You may notice that your baby does not sleep well in the dead silence because she is used to the noises she hears all day.

If you are curious about what each type of music or sounds will do to your baby, you should try experimenting. Play one type of music one night and see if it helps your baby sleep. The next night try a different type of music and see how well that one affected your baby. Eventually you will discover exactly what type of music your child requires to help her sleep, help her play, and help her just settle down.
