Music Festivals in Colorado

Colorado has music festivals spread throughout the state. On any given weekend you can pencil in a music festival on your calendar. Some festivals are weekend affairs and some are spread out over the Spring or Summer, as in the case of the Breckenridge Music Festival. The economy is squeezing promoters and prices have fallen a little for this year. It's a good year to explore parts of Colorado and take in good music at the same time.

Pikes Peak Library District World Music Series

Quetzal

Friday, June12, 2009 Quetzal is a musical group who is well grounded in Mexican and Afro-Cuban rhythms. However they also have a range of influences that include Stevie Wonder and Jimmy Page. That mix of ingredients can boil an interesting stew. Check out the live video clip of "Cenzontle." on the band's MySpace page. The tune has a definite Santana vibe, and the guitarist lays down some Jimmy Page style licks for the lead break.

Rocky Mountain Summer Gospelgrass

The Gospelgrass music festival takes place, June 25th-28, 2009. It will be held at the El Paso County fairgrounds in Calhan, Colorado.

It is an acoustic gospel music festival. This is a special year for Gospelgrass. The festival will be free this year in celebration of their ten-year anniversary.

The festival covers several gospel genres. Bluegrass, folk and Celtic are a few of the musical styles you will hear that weekend.

Gospelgrass begins on Thursday with seminars and music performances will begin at 7:00p.m. Friday 12-4:00 p.m. will be music workshops. Saturday will have more workshops and entertainment for the kids. For complete schedules, see here.

Blues & BBQ festival

Blues & BBQ festival is located in Arvada, Colorado. It's a one day event on July 19, 2009. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver.

Breckenridge Music Festival

The Breckenridge festival is an eclectic series of concerts. It will represent, country, chamber music, orchestra, swing and blues. Leo Kottke is a scheduled performer on August 2, at 7:30 p.m.. The music festival is split into three series, Champagne, Blue River and Riverwalk Center.

Crestone Music Festival

Crestone is home for the 11t annual Crestone Music Festival. The dates are August 7th-9th, 2009. The music line-up includes, The Edgar Winter Band. Papa Grows Funk, a funk-jam band. Gary Farmer and the troublemakers, a blues band. The final act is, The last to Know, their sound is described as discofunkgrass.

Collegiate Peaks Music festival

Collegiate Peaks festival is held in Buena Vista, Colorado. Festival dates are July 25th and 26th. This festival is largely made up of local performers.
