Music for your Fourth of July, Backyard Barbecue

Lauren Fant
With so many patriotic songs out there, people often wonder how to put the best music together for their Fourth of July parties, barbecues and/or fireworks shows. There are some great songs out there that everyone will enjoy!

The Armed Forces Medley is a great mix of all the anthems from the different armed forces branches. Battle Hymn of the Republic is also a good option if you can't find a good melody. The Star Spangled Banner - preferably the Jimi Hendrix guitar solo version - makes for some great background music, especially for the rock-n-roll fans in your family/friends group. God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood is the classic American declaration of pride. Anyone who hears it automatically thinks of the 4th of July and our country's freedom. Independence Day is originally by Martina McBride, but many people know it since Carrie Underwood covered it on American Idol beautifully. It's definitely a different, more contemporary song, but nonetheless a great addition to your collection. Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy is a fantastic, fun song to listen to and sing along. The version by the Andrews Sisters is a classic, but many different people have covered it. Pick the arrangement that best suits you. America is Neil Diamond's classic song about coming to America to pursue your dreams. It's a great song about the hopes and dreams of the American people and those that immigrate here.

As for a completely different song to play, try Living in America. This James Brown song is definitely not a "classic" patriotic song, but it will definitely add some spice to your music selection. Plus, use the time to remember the great James Brown legacy of music. This song is amazing.

Three classic songs to play are the following. The Stars and Stripes Forever is the John Philip Sousa classic and is a great, fun addition to any patriotic music mix. The instrumentals are awesome and everyone loves this song. America the Beautiful - well, no comments are needed because this is simply a must-have song for the 4th of July. Thousands of people have covered this song. Find your favorite(s) and add it to your list. God Bless America is another classic song for the 4th of July. Again, many, MANY people have covered the song, so pick the one(s) you like the best!

Enjoy this music selection. It will definitely bring some excitement and joy to your 4th of July party. Most of all though, remember the reason for the holiday and all of the music - that's what makes it so special!!
