Music, Friends, Beaches and Fun: My 2007 Summer

Ms. Canole

A summer forever etched in my memory included lots of things: touring with a band as roadie, campfires, and of course, fun in the sun at the beach. It all started in June of 2007, between my sophomore and junior year of college, when a friend asked me if I wanted to join their band on a three town jam tour. My job was to set up the equipment and assist with the sound checks. The great thing about it was that once I was done setting things up, I could sit back and enjoy the music. The tour food was mediocre, and I think I may have developed a taste for moldy bread, but it was an awesome experience with good music and great friends.

Once we got back to our home town in July, some pals surprised us with a "welcome home" campfire. We roasted marshmallows, and some people brought some acoustic guitars that we played into the late hours of the night. It was a relaxing evening in the country that was desperately needed after a month and a half long tour on the road.

I had picked up a summer job at a grocery store as a stock person at night, so I had ample amounts of free time for soaking up rays at the beach in the daytime. Sometimes I went by myself and read a book, and other times, I recruited friends. Summer 2007 was carefree and adventurous -- what all summers should be like.
