Music to Inspire Change - Songs for Earth Day

Earth Day 2010 is fast approaching. On April 22^nd, Earth Day celebrates it's 40^th anniversary and all over the world, people will work together to make the world a greener place. If you are going to be one of those people who is out there working for our future, you will need some music to entertain you as you work. Take a look at my list of Earth Day Songs!

1.Earth Song by Michael Jackson - An Earth Day songs list would not be complete without this song from the King of Pop! "What have we done to the world, look what we've done." If these lyrics don't inspire people to make a change, nothing will. Earth Song

2. Evergreen by Will Young - A beautiful song by Will Young with a very mellow sound. I can almost see the trees starting to grow to this one! Evergreen

3. Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell - This is another Earth Day songs playlist must. Although the title is a little bit misleading, this song is about covering up areas of natural beauty and replacing them with more buildings. "They took all the trees put 'em in a tree museum and they charged the people a dollar and a half just to see 'em". Worst case scenario, but we don't want the world to be that way. Big Yellow Taxi

4. Colours of the Wind by Vanessa Williams - From the Disney movie, Pocahontas, Colours of the Wind is all about being at one with nature and believing that every tree, river and leaf has a life of it's own. Colours of the Wind

5. What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong - The sound of Louis Armstong's voice, singing about how wonderful the world around us is will bring joy to anyone's Earth Day. Not only is it perfect for the event, it is one of the greatest songs of all time. What A Wonderful World

6. We Are The World by Various Artists - When you think of everything Earth Day stands for, We Are The World is an obvious choice. It talks about bringing people together to make a brighter future. We Are The World

7. Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel - Lyrically, it isn't exactly about Earth Day but it does bring a strong message of helping people through tough times. Bridge Over Troubled Water

8. Beautiful Day by U2 - With all the inspirational music so far, how about something to get you rocking out? Beautiful Day will bring an energy boost while you work! Beautiful Day

9. Planet Earth by Duran Duran - Another one to get you grooving! Duran Duran always bring the fun to any occasion! Clean up, plant seeds and dance! Planet Earth

10.Mercy, Mercy Me by Marvin Gaye - "Mercy me, mercy father, things ain't what they used to be, oil wasted on the ocean and upon our seas, fish full of mercury." It might not be the most obvious Earth Day songs choice but it certainly talks about the things everyone is trying to change. Mercy, Mercy Me
