Music and Your Mood

What do you do when you are sad and blue, and just don't know what to do? Or when you are so energetic you feel like you are going to jump out of your skin? Well I just happen to have a suggestion for you.

I have been a big music buff since a very young child, and have found that you can soothe your mood with the music you play at certain times. For example, when I am sad I will play music that lifts me up, and helps to cheer me, like a good Christian song that tells a story about being lifted up. I always grab Sandi Patty tracks and sing with them since I am an amateur singer, I have lots of her tracks, and can pick a Sandi song for almost any mood I am in.

When I am in a happy, energetic mood, I go for the real up beat music. Again Sandi Patty has many of those, but I also like Gloria Estefan, she has really good music, with a good up beat rhythm. Diana Ross is another good artist with up beat music.

If you enjoy singing, that can really do wonders for a down mood too. Grab your favorite tape or CD, stick it in the player and just sing your heart out, who cares if anyone is listening, if it brings your mood up it's worth it. I have loved to sing ever since I was very little. I've always had a really good memory for song tunes and their lyrics, so it was not uncommon to walk in a room and see me dancing around with a hairbrush in my hand with one of my favorite songs blaring over the radio. It was probably quite a site and hilariously funny!

Besides lifting your spirits or calming that overly bubbly mood, you may discover that you are actually good at singing, and that can open up some really cool and awesome doors! I've been a "closet" singer all my life, but about three years ago I sang before our Church, and the choir director was so impressed, that he got me in the choir and then got me in front of the congregation one Sunday morning to sing a solo. I have been hooked ever since, and now I eagerly await the opportunity to be asked to sing.

So the next time your are sad and blue, or jumping around the room with energy, try some music to help calm and tame you, or pick you up and brighten your day. You'll be glad you did, and who knows, someone may hear how wonderful you sound and you could be the next American Idol!.
