Music Playlist for Labor Day BBQs and Parties

10 Songs to Start Off Your Labor Day Weekend Celebrations

Rachel de Carlos
Labor Day is celebrated by both Americans and Canadians in honor of the working folks. So, if you work, or have ever worked, this day is for you to relax and have a great time. Do what you want to do and not what your boss wants. Crank up the tunes and tap your foot while you BBQ and have a cold one with friends and family!

Here's a Labor Day theme playlist to get you started:

Donna Summer will get those hips moving with She Works Hard for the Money. Whether you're a waitress or another kind of service oriented employee, you don't have to look good waitin' for your clientele today. You can look great rippin' up the dance floor instead!

ZZ Top Just Got Paid today and has himself a pocket full of change. I wonder if he was holding back that change from the person who recently was asking for it. Might be why we haven't seen any.

Elvis Costello says, Welcome to the Working Week, but luckily the working week, which won't thrill you, and hopefully won't kill you, is put off until Tuesday!

Huey Lewis and the News are Workin' for a Livin' and waitin' on a raise they know won't be comin'. Yeah, been there, done that. Get out your air guitar and play along with this one.

Don't put that air guitar away yet! Styx rocks with their tribute to the Blue Collar Man. Happiness is only a heartbeat away... or however far away that ice chest is!

Mick Jagger and The Stones are workin' so hard to keep you in the Luxury, a smooth mix of reggae and rock. He's makin' a million for the company and $20 for himself. Sound familiar? Never mind. Today you're not working for anybody!

Career Opportunities are the ones that never knock, according to The Clash. I guess they're right. If you want a career, you'd better be the one knocking on doors. Not today, though... Grab another cool one and worry about a career tomorrow!

According to Loverboy, everybody's Working for the Weekend, especially if it's a 3 day weekend like Labor Day! Don't work too hard on your day off. Today's for kicking back and taking it easy.

Does your baby take the Morning Train? Sheena Easton has the right idea. She's waiting at the door for her man who works all day to earn his pay so he can play all night... or all weekend! A 3 day weekend, at that!

Don't you wish you were Johnny Paycheck and could tell your boss, "Take this Job and Shove It!" He doesn't have the nerve to say it, but he isn't the only one thinking it! If you haven't watched any of the other videos, this one is worth watching just for the reassurance that you aren't the most fed up employee on the planet!

Like Shirley and many others, I am a proud blue-collar laborer. there is no shame, and something quite noble about getting one's hands dirty, and your article here is a fine tribute to those of us who keep this country going!
